Monday Jul 30

mountain bike 53:00 [3]
Road loop into Tolland and back. Worked the legs pretty hard.

Sunday Jul 29

hiking 1:25:00 [1]
Slow hike upstream along the Natchaug River from Rte. 198 past Diana's Pool to the first bridge and then downstream along the western bank which has no real trail. Cut short because of approaching thunderstorm. Interesting mill ruins along the way.

Saturday Jul 28

trail running 32:00 [3]
Twice around the outer loop at Belding. Hot, humid and right ankle painful to push off. Sticky hat got 20+. It was missing when I got home. I had put it on the roof of the car and forgot about it. Went back later and found it in the road 50m from the parking area in fine condition.

Wednesday Jul 25

track 11:42 [3]
Limped through 1.5 miles. 1:50,1:54,1:56,1:59,2:05,1:57

Tuesday Jul 24

mountain bike 51:00 [3]
Hilly road ride around town.

Sunday Jul 22

road run 27:27 [3]
Home to the Farmer's Market with an empty pack.
hiking 45:00 [3]
Farmer's Market to home with a pack full of organic tomatoes, cukes, beans and a jar of honey.
Note
Went to see Fred and the rest of the family before the race just to say Hi and let them know that I wouldn't be running because of the injured ankle/feet. Hated to miss one on a fine night for running.

Tuesday Jul 17

mountain bike 57:00 [3]
Road ride into Tolland and back.

Sunday Jul 15

road run 50:00 [4]
Out and back run down Carpenter, Trowbridge and South River. Testing to see if I might be able to finish the Fred Warren road race next weekend. A definite maybe after the struggle I had on the hills coming back. Feet were very sore after about 2.5 miles.

Saturday Jul 14

hiking 1:45:00 [1]
From Christian's house to and through Wachusett Meadows Audubon Sanctuary on Goodnow Rd. as far as large beaver created swamp then through the forest on a loop around the swamp and through a recently burned area. I made him a sticky Red Sox cap and between the 2 of us we captured more than forty FDFs and neither of us got bitten. Great day of bonding with #1 son.

Friday Jul 13

mountain bike 2:10:00 [3]
Bicycle commute from Charter Oak Park in Manchester to work in Hartford and back. About 13 miles each way - mostly on the East Coast Greenway, some roads. Great weather.

Tuesday Jul 10

mountain bike 31:00 [3]
Short, early ride to see recent changes in Liberty Croft. Feet are still too sore for running.

AOWN: The blueberry and raspberry harvest has begun. The local catbird gang is really pissed that I covered the fruit this year so I could have some for myself. I've seen them pecking at the netting and they scold me while I'm picking. Also, saw a fox running away from the raspberries. A thief? I know the dogs eat the low berries so I suppose the fox might like them too.

Snagged 8 FDF's with the sticky hat in 20 minutes of picking.
C • FDF report 3

Sunday Jul 8

orienteering race 6:05:00 [4]
Left hash house at 5:50 for another attempt at 77 after being told by Eric that "there was something wrong with the map in that area", and hearing from others that the control was well south of the circle. Got it with no problem and then moved on to the north where we blew 30 minutes searching wrong streams for 73 and then missing 66 on the first attack and taking another 20 min. to relocate. Next few controls went better and then we missed 42 on our stagger back to the finish and didn't have time to try again. Ended up 10th overall out of 19 teams. Minor cuts, bruises, aches and pains compared to previous rogaines.

Saturday Jul 7

Event: Finger Lakes Rogaine

orienteering race 12:00:00 [3]
Finger Lakes Rogaine. Perfect weather for our 2nd attempt at this map. Navigation didn't go as well as it did back in 1999. We modified our plan after several major bobbles and then a complete miss as dusk approached. Then we spent a futile hour looking for 77, which was misplaced and eventually awarded to every team that tried to find it. Got into hash house just after midnight 210 pts. behind our goal.

Sunday Jul 1

road run 37:00 [3]
To and from the Weigold Preserve.
trail running 28:50 [3]
Trail loop in Weigold and Tobiason preserves. Hat8-FDF's0
