Saturday Jan 6

kayaking 1:16:43 [3]
Upstream and into the wind on the Willimantic River from the Eagleville Dam almost to Rte. 44. bridge. Turned back downstream after 45 min. for a much easier paddle back.Roughly 3.8 miles round trip. Large deer carcass stuck on a snag midstream. I thought I might be the only one taking advantage of the warmth, but one fisherman was casting from his small boat near the dam and two other kayakers showed up as I was loading the boat back into the car.

Friday Jan 5

road run 23:20 [4]
Intervals around the neighborhood. 100 strides 5k race pace - 25 easy, repeat

Thursday Jan 4

road run 49:55 [2]
Neighborhood predawn tour at an easy pace. Nearly full moon lit the way. Northfarms, Broadway, School Ext. and back via Hannah. Two deer on Jeff Jones lawn looked up but didn't run away as I passed within 20 feet. Good thing I don't run with a Ridgeback. approx. 5.15 miles

Wednesday Jan 3

Nordictrack race 30:00 [3]
While watching "You Can Do It" retirement planning program on PBS. Depressing.

Tuesday Jan 2

road run 34:00 [2]
Pre-dawn jog around the neighborhood. Unseasonable warmth continues. Expect that this early am routine won't be quite as enjoyable in few weeks.

Monday Jan 1

hiking 1:55:35 [1]
Supposed to be a New Years Day hike with the Meshomasic Hiking Club but no one showed up. Got the winter newsletter on Saturday and it bragged that the club actually held 127 of the 129 hikes planned in 2006 and cited this fact as proof that at least some MHCers are not afraid of "torrential downpours". Then no one shows up for the first hike of 2007 on a mild, rainy day! Although I would have liked some company, I enjoyed a nice fast hike of the outer loop plus some of the mountain bike trails on the west end out to Birch Mountain Road. Stepped in a huge dog shit upon my return to the parking lot. AOWN

Sunday Dec 31

orienteering 58:30 [2]
Slow run around Crandall Park with a rough draft of portions of the new map Clint is working on. Seems to be a fine job so far. Plenty of rock, plenty of climb.
C • I was beginning to wonder whet... 5
trail running 31:26 [3]
Most of the outer loop at Crandall Park after the map run. Hadn't fallen at all during the run in the woods, but fell hard twice on the trail. Now off to New Year's Eve party to pack on the calories.
