orienteering race 1:37:30 [4] 7.8 km (12:30 / km)

Red course at Ward Pound Ridge. My best run ever on this map. No compass but no big errors. Took the longer way around on a couple of controls to avoid laurel.

Note

No time or energy to workout today. Feel like the river beat me up.

kayaking race 1:30:00 [4]

Hockanum River Race. Time is approx. Failed to start watch. Rapids behind Beacon Light were tough and big trouble for lots of boats, but I made it through without incident. Flipped the kayak twice in the space of 5 minutes in a tight twisting section just upstream from the intersection with Adams St. Hurt my back dragging the kayak full of water up on to shore. Lots of spectators at that spot to watch the carnage. One guy told me he had seen at least 10 boats flip there, but that I was the only one so far to flip twice. Emptying and relaunching twice probably cost me 10 minutes. Fortunately the sun was out by that point and I didn't freeze during the last few miles.
