| Cycling hills 1:15:00 [4] | ||
| 4 laps of le volcan and soome warming up/down. Saw the Haries doing their handicap. Did some cyclo-cross down the grass where we do hills, was interesting, especially as it was a bit damp and I didn't have cyclo-cross tyres on. Crushed some pretender on a £3000 Colnago. | ||

| Banter jog with Haries. Very little banter. | ||

| Cycling 1:50:00 [3] | ||
| Quick spin in the evening after getting back from Spain, mainly to show off my tan. Felt like utter crap on the plane, thought my head was going to explode. Felt OK on the bike though, right hammy a bit tight. | ||

| Cycling tempo 2:30:00 [4] | ||
| Went out on the 9:40 with Edinburgh RC. The 9:40 is never a problem, so went with the "fast" group. I was completely worked over after about 15 minutes of chain-ganging. So spend the rest of the ride sitting at the back. There was a nice little group of wheel suckers, the non-Russian in the full Russian kit sucked wheel good, until he got dropped going up a slight incline. I'm guessing he is not Russian by the fast he got dropped like he was Rick Waller on a Granny Basher. We were setting a mean pace into a brutal head-wind, 18.4 average on the way out into that is bloody fast. We then hit the turn and things started to get rapide! Soon after things got pretty serious. We were coming through Gullane, and I was right at the back. I heard shouting up at the font, and saw everyone fanning out and slowing down, then some parked car pulled right out into the road. I saw 1 guy hit the deck and another go flying in the air. The car then carried on driving off up the road like nothing had happened. So I then pulled out and went sideways across the road stopping him going anywhere. Despite this he still tried to force me out the way. Wasn't going to happen though. Someone else then came up swearing his tits off and banging on the drivers window. Oh, did I mention the drive was well into his 80s. Some other ERCer then pulls captain crazy out the way and gets the driver to wind his window down. The driver then totally denies everything and tells us to get out his way because he is buys. Big Eric then has to box him in from behind to stop him doing a runner. Now I look over to the pile up and see that we have a man down, curled up and bleeding quite a bit from the head. Not good. Some people from the shop have got him a blanket and he's being looked after. A lot of faffing, we get quite a few eye-witnesses, and eventually the ambulance turns up. A little later the police car arrives. Fortunately some pedestrian has taken charge and so most of us can get on our way back to Edinburgh. I don't know who the guy was who got smashed, but it's never nice seeing someone you were riding with get put in the back on an ambulance with severe head-injuries. You know it's bad when the local shop keeper has to get a bucket of water the wash the blood of the road. No news yet on how he's doing, or if he's even alive. All I can say is thank fuck I was riding crap today and was at the back. | ||

| Strength & Conditioning 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| Did some weights, in a room full of idiots. The did some stability and other stuff up in the circuit gym. Still don't understand why the gym shuts so early on the weekends. | ||
Friday Apr 18 | ||
| Running 35:00 [3] | ||
| Vuelta Pradera, as per usual. Spent all day in the library finishing off Global Tectonics. Fun times had by all. Had a portion of chips, but used the wooden fork to remain classy. Some jogger jogged past me whilst jogging and gave me the look as to say I'm a fatty fat fat eating chips and they are some amazing person who eats lettuce and jogs every day. I then got the same look off a bunch of ultimate frisbee players who were clearly not even students. Weird. | ||
Thursday Apr 17 | ||
| Running race 17:20 [5] | ||
| Braids Time Trial, 1 lap. 17:20. Sunny, wind 15mph E. Very very muddy.
14/03: 17:37 17/04: 17:20 I set out thinking I would run under 17 minutes. I was disappointed last time running 17:37, and I'm disappointed running 17:20 now. Still, it's an improvement none the less. Felt really good at the start, and went hard up the hill, and hard down the hill. Heel planted onto a stone or something, and properly bruised my foot. Oh well. Started to fade on the long home straight. Back to KB for some revisionation. Joy.
| Jogging warm up/down 43:00 [2] | ||
Wednesday Apr 16 | ||
| Static Cycling 1:00:00 [3] | ||
| Was going to go for a ride in the morning, but needed to get new cleats and couldn't be arsed waiting for the bike co-op to open. So headed into KB instead. Shame really, it was a really sunny day again. Ground out some Global Tectonics revision then went to the gym in the evening. Was going to do some stability and conditioning up the the Circuit Gym, but some punks had to room booked out. Looked like the rowing team. That would be the rowing team who needed to be be rescued from the Tyne by the coastguard. Maybe if they spent more time on the boats and less time in the gym they wouldn't need to make so many donations to the RNLI. | ||

Tuesday Apr 15 | ||
| Running 1:00:00 [4] | ||
| Intervals with Haries. 6 x 600m with 45s rest. Pretty tough session. Ran with Ned until the home straight where him and the Arab opened the juice. First time I've run fast on tarmac, legs took a bit of a pounding. Think I'm gonna stick to the grass for a while longer.
Spent most of the day in the main library, which is always an emotional experience. There's no doubt, arts students are nice to look at. But other than that they really do serve no purpose. They walk around with a completely undeserved arrogance, what they are arrogant about I have no idea. Because they're degree is not only a piece of piss, but completely useless as well. They also have a distinct lack of awareness of others. Unless of course the other is in fact one of their horsey friends, in which case they love to have a nice loud chat about utter utter bollocks despite the fact some of us are revising for real exams. Not only all that, the university thinks it is a good idea to spend £60 million doing pretty much nothing to the library other than getting some chairs from Ikea and new light fittings. And there is obviously no better time for a renovation than revision time... I think I'll be sticking to KB for the minute... although in the interest of inconvenience, they are moving our library over the JCMB. No idea why, it's fine where it is and there is literally nothing wrong with it, apart from the distinct lack of important books, but that's what the uni libraries are all about.
Monday Apr 14 | ||
| Strength & Conditioning 2:00:00 [2] | ||
| Dawn patrol to the gym. Which was pretty full, considering. I guess all the normal people are still tapping it out before they have to get to work. Did strength stuff, then headed up stairs for some conditioning stuff. Then I had a banana. As per usual, there was some tool walking around in the bursary t-shirt. Wow, they must be good. | ||

| Running 35:00 [3] | ||
| Ronde Weilanden, as per usual. Pretty sunny, so whapped out the shorts and t-shirt. Summer is slowly getting here. I seem to remember it normally being really nice during exam period and the Meadows normally turn into a well dressed refugee camp. | ||
Sunday Apr 13 | ||
| Note | ||
| Was thinking of going for a ride; didn't. Watched some London Marathon, Moto GP and then went and looked round a new flat.
Rest day could be good, it gives me more time to spend not revising. Been coughing up some nasty green mank recently, got a minging cold on the field-trip. When I breathe deep I can feel some fluidy goo move somewhere near my lungs. Not good.

Saturday Apr 12 | ||
| Cycling 2:30:00 [3] | ||
| Cycling with ERC, not sure which group it was, maybe the 9:40. Left a bit late so had to catch them up at Delkeith. Setting a pretty good tempo most of the time. Some moody arse woman get getting annoyed at everything. Probably works as an accountant during the week or something.
Follwed by lunch, followed by library. Which is where I am right now, but I'll be revising once I've done this.
Friday Apr 11 | ||
| Strength & Conditioning 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| So I've started doing weights, only nautilus machines though, building back up before I hit the real stuff. Did some stability and plyometrics stuff afterwards. Some sort of freshers open day or something as a big group of nervous people were being lead round the gym. All clearly impressed at my ability to stand on 1 leg. | ||
| Running 35:00 [3] | ||
| Steady running around the meadows, 3 laps on the grass, just over 4 miles in total. This was my gift to self for some excellent revision done the the main library. Mostly colouring in and cutting out pictures. But that's what the earth sciences are all about. Bumped into Coombs and Cheps. Coombs had just been down to the salon for a cut and blow-dry (poofter). | ||
Thursday Apr 10 | ||
| Running 1:00:00 [3] | ||
| Medium tempo round Blackford and Braids from KB. Legs felt pretty stiff, sitting in library for too long, obviously. Braids was the muddiest I have ever seen it. It was that annoying clayey (it's a word) mud which sticks to your shoes and makes them weigh as much as Cheps's lunchbox. I also had a cunning plan. Just before the braids race I'm going to take a spade and deepen one of the puddles from a few muddy inches to a few muddy feet. I'll tell the Haries and the lucky few which one it is... | ||
Wednesday Apr 9 | ||
| Cycling 2:15:00 [3] | ||
| Cranking it solo, went out to just past Gullane and then back. Felt pretty rubbish. Aint been on bike much recently. Hopefully this one blew the cobwebs off. Nearly got attacked by some neds in a nova. It got to the point where the stopped the car. They obviously then saw the size of my man crushing quads and wheel span away. Poofters. | ||
Tuesday Apr 8 | ||
| Running intervals 1:00:00 [5] | ||
| Intervals down track. 5 x 500m with 50s rest, then 200m hard, then 2 easy laps, then 3 x 500m with 90s run a bit faster. Very very nearly shat myself. My gut was rotten. The joy of intervals. Met a mate of Bogle down track. | ||
Monday Apr 7 | ||
| Running 35:00 [3] | ||
| Jogging round Meadows. 3 laps. Banter. | ||
| Strength & Conditioning 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| First weights session in ages. Felt the effects for 4 days afterwards. Muscle pain is muscle gain. Nice. | ||
