Today, il giro d'eeside. After cleaning vast amounts of mess left by the EUOC Bursary team I set off up the Dee valley to Balmoral for lunchen with the Queen. It turned out that although Balmoral seemed quite close on the map, in real life it was a bit further than 24cm. However it got to the point where I had set off, so I was going to go all the way, plus there was no way to cross the river except for turning around and going back down the road I had just come from, and I was never going to do that. The yokels would think I had gone the wrong way or something, and I wasn't about to lose face to yokels. The south Dee road is amazing, at the risk of sounding a bit like an M55, the views were amazing and it was good to be in the highlands. It only took 2 hours to get there, which wasn't that bad. So I headed back down the Valley, on the A road of death, which turned out to be quite quiet. This was meant to be downhill all the way, but it seems the civil engineers though it would be funny to make the road go up the valley sides for absolutely no reason what so ever. Twats. I got a call from Coombsy saying they were in the park in Aberdeen doing their sprint race. I on the other hand was miles away. So head down and in the drops I tapped out a nice pace and the mile just rolled past. I reached a low point around Balleter, the mixed grill from the night before had just run out. Fortunately dessert was about to kick in and I got an awesome 2nd wind by Banchory. Things worked out pretty well, I got to the outskirts of Aberdeen just before Chepls and Coombs. 80 miles in the bank, good job. I then didn't get changed because Becky stole my bag. I then did have a massive fish and chip and battered sausage and smoked sausage and hughe bottle of coke to try and replace some of the calories used up today. A good weekend.

Cycling 4:10:00 [4]70.0 mi (3:34 / mi)
EUOC bursary training weekend up in Deeside, staying at Castle Coombs. running is for jokers, so I took up the Bianchi to put the miles in. Today: Col du Cairn O' Mount. Not much of a warm up, the hill really gets going as you go through Glen Dye. It's about 405m of vertical ascent, but there are a few ups and downs along the way to get more climbing in. By the top I was in the granny ring, barely moving and wanted to cry, but I got to the top. From there there is only one way to go. go up to 75kph on the way down, which is good for a bendy road. Then I just cruised about on the back roads of the Dee valley and surrounding area. Had a nice tail wind for a lot of it, which turned into a nasty tail wind for a lot of it.

We watched the rugby. Not sure why. Looks like France have it sewn up.

Dinner in the poshest pub ever. Mixed grill with extra chips. A meal of champions (me and coombs ever). Hollie has salmon, because she is the poshest person in Glasgow. I didn't think they had posh people in Glasgow, but they do. Don't be fooled by the weegie accent.
