Note
In cycling shit happens. Last year when shit happened to race favourite and american, Levi Leipheimer, the american officials decided to change UCI rules. If you crash out in the last 3km of a race you get given the same time as the people you were with, due to the aggresive nature and high pace of the sprint finish, which is a good rule. However last year Levi got caught in a big crash a few kilometers from the safe zone, causing him to lose his race leaders jersey that he had just one in the prologue the day before. Americans don't like losing stuff (except dignity and respect) so they decided to come up with a new rule, the Levi Rule, which increased the safe zone to 10km, amazingly this now meant that Levi fell in the safe zone and kept his leaders jersey. Hurrah for USA.

Yesterday, Manx god of cycling, Mark Cavendish got caught up in a crash about 8km from the finish. Being a man he didn't cry like a little girl like Levi, he instead got back on his bike and starte his way back to the peleton. Creashing at 60kph tends to fuck your bike, his derailleur was a bit broken, so he went to the team car and a mechanic fixed it. As per usual in every professional cycle race in the world ever, Cav held onto the car for a bit. He then worked his way through the support caravan, drafting off all the team cars to get back to the peleton. Cyclists have a lot of respect for each other, and wont attack when a man is down, and the peleton had slowed to let Cav back in, as he is a shit-hot sprinter. Having got back in in then went and won the sprint. What a legend, especially when his lead-out man had decided not to lead him out but to go for the win instead, he obviously didn't win because he isn't the Cav.

Anyway, so last year they invented a rule to save a favourite rider, well this year they decided that Cavendish should be penalised, and they gave him a 20s penalty. Cheeky bastards. Still, he'll have more chances for great tour victories, unlike Levi because he rides for the Kazakh Dope Service who aint being invited to any races. They even have the audacity to bitch about it. "Why aint we been invited?". How about because for the last 2 years your riders have been caught doping and have brought the sport to the brink of collapse.

Why anyone would have joined Astana I don't know, Levi, Klöden and Contator are all idiots. Plus the drug taking bastards are still getting their ass kicked by a non-pro tour clean team wearing argyle...

69 miles! And I didn't even have to alter my route. Went out with the EUCC, which was a mistake as captain slow was there again. If I was that bad at something, I just wouldn't do it, I especially wouldn't do it and force people to wait for you all the time whilst they are trying to train, and there is absolutely no way I would do an Iron-Man. What on earth is she thinking about. That's the equivilant of a lump of mud entering an Iron Man. She aint a man, and she certainly aint made of iron. Maybe her bike is, maybe that is why she is so slow. I doubt it, though. I think she's just rubbish. I have no tolerance.

GG's stopped over tonight, we'll be sleeping together soon...

After too long a lie in and severaql videos on youtube I decided to stop being a softcock, man up and ride in the wind. On the way out this means riding with the wind, which is nice, but I kept the effort down nice and low so I would have plenty of energy to get back in. Highpoint: speed 25mph, HR 138. Lowpoint: speed 13mph, HR 171. On the same piece of road, just in oposite directions. Wasn't as bad as I though on the way back, I just assumed the position and thought of Ullrich.

If taxi drivers spent their whole time driving, why are they so bad at it?148

Running 1:00:00 [4]

Another windy day, I was semi up for going for a ride, bearing in mind what the peleton in the ToC had ridden through for 7 hours yesterday. Cleverly I dedicded to go for a fun instean. Went up to KB and ran round Blackford for a bit. Warmed up, just as it started raining, ran 40 mins "fast" (that's a relative term) and then warmed down just as it stopped raining. It was could to have a bit of pace in my training. Got attacked by a dog bitch. Afterwards my knees really really hurt when I was sitting down after my shower, wierd. I had lunch and forgot about it. They didn't hurt when running, and it was only for a few minutes after. A bit wierd. I was running on tracks too, no pounding on the 'mac.

Went down to CSE for a sauna and had over an hour of stretchy time. Most of which doubled up as pervy time. I've changed my mind about the gym, it is a good place. Going up to girls in peach tops when they don't know how to use a machine is also a very good idea. The gym is definitely a good place.

Edinburgh had the wind today, so no chance of heading out on the roads, I wasn't really up for crawing back into a 30mph headwind. Decided to head down the the gym and sit on the bikes there for a bit. After sitting on one of them for a while I decided to start pedalling. I soon realised why I hate riding the bikes in the gym. Mainly, because the gym is full of those annoying people who go to the gym. It also doesn't help that whoever it was who designed gym bikes has never actually been on a real bike. The geometry is all over the shop. I started on the fantastic cross-country setting, cranked the resistance quite high, then waited a while before I slyly turned it down again, I didn't want to look like I didn't even know what resistence to ride on. Was going to go an hour, but really really couldn't stick it, so sacked out after 40mins. Oh well. I tried.

Note
I can't believe I actaully cleaned the kitchin. Cleaned my bike as well, but then I love my bike so that was always gonig to happen. I don't love our kitchin. I do love food though, and I guess without a kitchins food would severely suffer in this world. It's like when a really annoying person has a hot friend, you tolerate them to get to the friend. Take the rough with the smooth. Speaking of which, crunchy peanut butter is so much better than smooth.
Jogging 30:00 [2]

Wee jog round the meadows, 2 laps. Calfs were tight as tight-rope walker's tightest rope, so thought I'd go out for a loostener and then do a bit of stretching before I head out the EUCC for a magical mystery tour of East Lothian.

One day I might go for 3 laps. One day...

Wednesday = sports day. Lots of sporty action going down, I went on the afternoon ride with EUCC. Not a very big group today. And only me and Aiden had legs, so we spent the whole ride at the front taking the wind. I accept that we have riders of all standards, but what really annoys me is when a person is pretty crap anyway, but then goes and does laps round the seat in the morning and then turns up to the club ride tired so we have to wait for her all the fucking time. She couldn't even sit in on a wheel. If you're that shit you shouldn't even be training twice a day. I'm getting tempted not to go to these rides anymore, they are just too stop start. It didn't help that the level-crossing came down about 3 hours before the train came past.

Had an ice bath, and a saunu and a stretch. Watched the guys basketball team stick it to Aberdeen. Got a text saying that the girls lost their BUSA qualifying by 1 point, oh dear. Bet that was a fun 6 hour minibus journey back up. I went to our new local. Which had 3 police cars + an ambulance outside and blood stains on the window and pavement. I live in a nice area. Apparently some guy jot jumped by some neds. The barstaff gave us a big dish of free olives. Free olives always taste nice. Then went to pairtree for a quickone. The OC was conspicuous by its absence, no suprise there. Then headed down to Shaghai for the night. Met the mighty DT and cranked out the polka-dot king of the mountains jersey. The bouncer wasn't to impressed:

"What's that?"
"King of the mountains Jersey"
"Looks like king of the gays jersey to me"

Still, the punters were loving it. Good times.

(rest day)
I think I'm gonna clean the kitchen today. And my bike. And my room. Probably not going to happen, but it's the thought that counts, and I difinitely thought about it, so that's good enough I guess.

Thor (thunder god, not Hushovd) is once again pleased, and keeps glorious training weather over Edinburgh. Normally on a Monday I'm in uni 9-5 and so just go for a wee jog in the evening, plus i'm normally recovering from the weekend. Seeing as how lectures aint on this week and it's sunny and nice I thought I just go for a wee jog on the bike. Cadence; high. Heart-Rate; low. That was the aim and that's what I did, evening if it did mean crawling up the hill from Musselburgh, in the granny ring, in public. Despite keeping my heart-rate really low I still managed to keep a pretty good speed. It's either because I'm amazing and really fit, or that there was literally no wind today. The Forth estuary looked like a calm mill pond. A really big estuarine mill pond with oil tankers on it, but still, I aint ever seen it that calm before.

I fucked my thumb yesterday (medically, not sexually) which only really becomes a problem when squeezing my water bottle or playing playstation. I don't actually have a playstation, so that's not really a problem. But it did hurt when I squeezed my bottle (and by bottle I mean bottle, not penis), but I seemed to always forget and always used the same hand. I think it's just habit. I've thought about habit a bit, an notcied that I always do loads of things the same. I always unclip my right foot when stopping. I always use my left hand for my bottle, right hand for swearing. I always put my right sock on first, and my right shoe. Sometimes I put my left sock on just to be a bit crazy.

I watched the prologue of the Tour of California last night. Some good viewing of a 2.1mile blitz round Stanford University. The Brit Pack did well, Millar 9th, Cavendish 8th and Wiggins 2nd. Fabian Cancellara was the man today though, 4 seconds ahead of Wiggins. That's why he gets to wear the rainbow jersey.

Jogging 45:00 [3]

Banter jog with Haries, went round Arthur's seat. Legs felt pretty good, even on road on going down hill. A little bit nippy once the sun had gone down, but definitely weather for naughty shorts. Followed that with an ice bath, followed that with a sauna.

Came back, had dinner and started watching tour of California. Now we all know american commentators are annoying. But these ones are really really really annoying, and not in the normal totally over the top enthusiasm way, they just know nothing about cycling. Yesterday was the time trial, where everyone starts seperately, with big numbers on, wearing team kit in a specific order, and there would only ever be 3 or 4 people on the course at once, yet they still struggled with working out who everyone was. Twats. Tonight the peleton have just turned on the gas to catch the break away man, but I can't hear about that because they are interviewing some cancer survivor. I'm not being harsh, but the only thing special thing she has done since surviving cancer is not die. She aint won le Tour 7 times in a row, so quite frankly, who the fuck cares...??? It all became apparent though, during chemotherapy she used medication from Amgen, who happend to sponsor the tou of California...

Some interesting turns of phrase coming up, as usual with americans. At the end of the race the sprinters will be going for the sprint "bonifications". Nice, the last loop will also be going under a tunnel, presumably in another tunnel. I'd rather listen le Tour's commentator talk in french. And I don't speak a word of french.
