Note
(sick)

I think the vertigo spells are finally getting manageable. Played 9 holes of golf (played lousy--maybe still dizzy?)--my first exercise in a week. Going to try a short run tomorrow.

Note
(sick)

Not sure what the problem is, but I had several severe bouts of vertigo over night and today. The likely culprit is some ear infection, but I'm concerned it might be some follow-on effect of dehydration from Sunday at the A event.

Walk 40:00 [1] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Velocity

On the road in CT--went for a walk with Steve.

Orienteering race 3:10:00 [4] ***** 7.0 km (27:09 / km) +220m 23:27 / km
shoes: adidas triple star

Second day of Surebridge. EVEN THOUGH I resolved to navigate more carefully, I still was too careless and it cost me. After bombing a few early controls, I totally messed up and after several attempts at relocating, finally gave up: I had to be in Hartford CT for a meeting and having gone too long without water on a hot sunny day, I was starting to feel the need for self-preservation.
Lessons: some maps cannot be done intuitively (at least by me). I *need* to be clear on APs and be patient closing in. Silly me--I really should have been pace-counting more.
In spite of the total competitive failure, I think the whole thing was a great learning experience (I'm glad I got this one out of my system now...)

Event: HVO A-Meet

Orienteering race 2:09:00 [5] ***** 6.6 km (19:33 / km) +270m 16:14 / km
shoes: adidas triple star

First day of Surebridge. Terrain was nice, but the map was a shock to my eyes. Except for one really big screwup, I didn't feel too bad about the run, all things considered.

Sunday Apr 15, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

I was sooo looking forward to going out on those nice April afternoons that this recent weather (Nor'easters and snow!) has me too depressed to work out.

Saturday Apr 14, 2007 #

Golf 4:00:00 [2] 4.0 mi (1:00:00 / mi)

Golf isn't a great workout, but hauling a bag of clubs around on the course ought to count for something...

Note
(rest day)

Spent yesterday and today driving to a meeting in Buffalo NY. Lots of 'rest' I suppose, but I always feel worse after being cooped up in a car for so long.

2x15 around Bollinger loop. Made it to the bridge on first leg--new record..., top of hill on the second (~best). Maybe all the hills are paying off.

Orienteering race 1:36:00 [5] **** 9.2 km (10:26 / km) +300m 8:58 / km

Second day of A event. Again--most controls not too bad with a couple seriously bad route choices. Didn't realize till after I finished I was wearing the wrong glasses--no wonder I had trouble reading the map...
