Off-Road Running long (endurance) 1:40:00 [4] ** 13.0 km (7:42 / km) +400m 6:40 / km
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Long loop at FC East. Tried road shoes and orthotics, which worked pretty well till my feet got wet--orthotics get real slippery and uncomfortable. Pretty shaky at the start, usually do the long runs after a rest day. Felt OK at the end, but I'm surprised that I don't have more endurance. Just missing something...

Road Running (recovery) 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Around the block--still don't feel well. Not sure if its heat or sickness or what...

Orienteering race 1:38:00 [5] **** 5.9 km (16:37 / km) +155m 14:41 / km
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Mt Penn - Very weird day. Had to rush to event early to take over epunch table, and then dealt with extremely strong t-storm with hail and nearby lightning strikes. After getting all the equipment back up and running, it was 1:30 by the time I could start, so I changed from Red to Green. Running after doing epunch all day has not worked well in the past and this was particularly trying. Got off to a bad start and plodded through most controls OK. But one massive boom on #5 took over 30 minutes. Excuses: it was so damp that I couldn't see--every time I would stop running my glasses would fog over. Lessons: either run first, or find someone to take over epunch duties early. Also, take a towel--or perhaps there is some sort of treatment to prevent fogging on glasses?

Road Running (pace) 30:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Quick run around the block--leaving shortly thereafter on trip. Fartlek kind of running just to limber everything up.

Road Running (pace) 48:00 [4] 6.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Bollinger loop with frequent up-pace stretches and short recoveries. Pretty intense--just too used to jogging I guess.

Golf 2:00:00 [2] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

A not very fast round in the heat. Played well (more lucky than good).

Road Running (pace) 35:00 [4] 3.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Some speed work-- 2-3 minute pace runs with short walk/jog recovery. Way hot and humid-this is about as much as I can take in this kind of weather. The rest of the workout is putting fenceposts in for the garden.

Off-Road Running (endurance) 1:30:00 [5] ** 12.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Vasque Velocity

Tried one of my usual long FC runs, but didn't feel like usual. Very hot, dead legs, stumbling around--ugh... Vasque shoes are just too big and getting sloppy. As for the conditioning, perhaps I still haven't quite recovered from the hiking trip. Tried carrying a water bottle in hand the whole way. Not much fun--ordered hydration pack to test out next time. Definitely need to get better at this to have any chance of doing well in the rogaine next month.
(distance a guess)

Road Running (speed) 49:00 [4] 6.0 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Usual around the block with lots of 100-200 fast pace runs thrown in with walk/jog recovery. Sucking wind--particularly on up hill runs. Slow training isn't going to do it...

Orienteering race 1:19:00 [5] *** 7.5 mi (10:32 / mi) +190m 9:46 / mi
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Fair Hill--one of my more favorite places. Kind of like a really long sprint with lots of fields/trails/etc. Still felt kind of dead from hiking trip. Lost a few minutes getting behind a pack of horses on a trail...

Road Running (speed/recovery) 58:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:40 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Although the activity seems a bit contradictory, the intent is to recover from the effects of the week-long hiking--which seems to be complete loss of leg speed. Sort of makes sense, as hiking would be the ultimate 'slow' pace activity. Anthing faster than a plot seems hard right now.

Road Running (recovery) 49:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Bollinger block--still trying to recover from hike. A few sore spots, but overall fatigue.

Road Running (recovery) 30:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Supernova

Around the block to try to loosen things up from hiking. Lots of muscles feel out of balance for running.

Note

Spent the past week hiking with the kids in the White Mountains in NH. Strenuous with lots of climbing and rocks. Not going to document as training, but certainly must have done something. As tired and almost as sore as after running a marathon.
