Road Running 50:00 [3] 5.4 mi (9:16 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Tried easy run around Bollinger loop with new shoes. Lots of thing hurt, some of which may be adjusting to new shoes. But left knee seems to want to stay sore. May need some rest.

Road Running 35:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Cont. Divide

Going to go for a long run and it started pouring about 5 min out. Really wasn't dressed for prolonged drenching (as cold as it was). So, bailed and went around the block with some hill and pace runs thrown in. Actually felt pretty strong at pace, but lots of aches and pains no matter how fast I was moving.

Orienteering race 1:10:00 [5] *** 6.0 km (11:40 / km) +150m 10:22 / km
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Another typical Hibernia event for me... i.e., bad. Every year I resolve not to bother again, but I keep forgetting or something.

Orienteering 30:00 [3] ** 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 2110

Went out for a cooldown after the race. Hips still really bothering me--particularly after running hard during race then nothing but standing and sitting. Definitely felt better after the cooldown.

Road Running 37:18 [4] 4.25 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 740

Some speed work-- ~200m pace runs with jogging in between. Felt OK, but hips/torso still hurts.

Road Running 51:30 [3] 5.6 mi (9:12 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 2110

Lewis mills block--felt OK at start, but left knee didn't warm up like usual and hips (more so right this time??) felt bad. Something not right...

Road Running 38:00 [3] 4.0 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel 2110

Slogging around the block--first day since HH that my left knee feels well enough to run. Felt pretty good considering...

Orienteering race 5:05:00 [5] ***** 26.2 km (11:38 / km)
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Hudson Highlander. Not sure what to expect at the start. Went out probably faster than I should have. Definitely hurting by the end...
Hung with a group most of the first loop, but was pretty comfortably navigating on my own the whole way. The biggest benefit to the group was largely eliminating the last minute hunting around to find the flag. Still feeling OK through the trail run part. Bashed my knee on the second loop and started to having trouble moving through rough terrain. Ended up with a different group through most of the second loop as well.
Really sweating and worried about dehydration (even though I was only wearing a long sleeve tee under my DVOA top) with temps in the low 40's at start). Spent more time than most at all the aid stations trying to get as much water as I could take--which is how I ended up losing groups between loops. On third loop, I started out alone about 3-5 min after previous group started, but better route choice had us almost joining up at first control. Went off alone again toward second control and got there first, then rejoined for a few controls. On the last real leg, took long way around to use road--not sure ankles would take much more rock--and lost a few minutes.
Very happy with improved navigation on Harriman maps from the last time I was here. Hips really bothering me--conditioning seems OK, but I have to find a solution to back/hip/butt pain...

Walk 30:00 [2] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

brisk walk around the neighborhood while waiting for Bailey. Back feels OK, but leg/hip is so tight I can barely move it in some directions.

Road Running 53:00 [3] 5.4 mi (9:49 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 740

Around the block, just trying to get back in the swing of things after all the course-setting last week. All kinds of things just hurt--is it really possible to go so far downhill by just taking a few days off from running?

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] *** 4.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Cont. Divide

I'll give myself credit for an hour+ of O'ing to help run the FCE event--hanging last-minute controls, hauling water, etc.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [2] *** 4.0 mi (45:00 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Cont. Divide

hanging controls for sunday. Actually a pretty good navigation exercise--worked on various habits and techniques (pace count, contouring, etc.) on my way from control to control..
