Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] *** 3.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Course setting for FCN with Sam. Some running, but mostly walking.

Monday Jul 26, 2010 #

Golf 2:00:00 [1] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

Golf--finally got in all 9 holes without rain.

Orienteering 1:04:00 [5] *** 5.8 km (11:02 / km) +130m 9:55 / km
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Green lane in the heat (90+). Actually, except for the last couple legs that were all out in the open, the temps were bearable. Navigation was OK--biggest mistake was caused by the common error of paying too much attention to other people. 2 others leaving the prior control seemed to be going too far right/high and I didn't have the confidence to ignore them entirely (kind of split the difference where they were going and where I thought I should be going). Funny--another waste of a few minutes was on one of the easier controls. I was practically standing next to it, but the flag was so bleached out that it didn't register as "orange".
One thing I had trouble with was exchanging a 1:10k map for a 1:5k. Caught myself misjudging distances several times after the exchange. It probably would have been a challenge on any day, but when your brain is frying, its a real challenge.

Road Running 40:30 [3] 4.3 mi (9:25 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lewis mills block. Out at 7AM trying to beat what was supposed to be the muggiest day so far this year. Starting off, I can tell I hadn't run yesterday--hard to breathe, foot sore, no pep... This isn't supposed to be what a day off does. Once things warmed up, it seemed to get better. Have to see what tomorrow brings, running hard in the middle of the day.

Road Running 1:10:00 [3] 7.6 mi (9:13 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Longer run this AM--not too hot or humid (relatively speaking, anyway). Felt much better than on short run previously. The whole question of training vs resting seems to be getting so much more complicated with age.

Road Running 50:00 [3] 5.2 mi (9:37 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Bollinger block. Very humid. Still have a bit of a sore throat, which I think is also bronchial--hard to breath. Easy fartlek just trying to loosen things up. Hams tight from all the bending over while weeding the garden.

Monday Jul 19, 2010 #

Golf 1:30:00 [1] 2.0 mi (45:00 / mi)

Second week in a row rained out after getting 6 in.

Saturday Jul 17, 2010 #

Note
(sick)

Might be coming down with what Sam had all week. Sore throat and chest, and now getting dizzy...

Friday Jul 16, 2010 #

Road Running 40:00 [3] 4.3 mi (9:18 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lewis mills hills loop. Extremely muggy--hard to breath. Worked the steeper parts.

Orienteering race 57:00 [5] **** 5.5 km (10:22 / km) +200m 8:46 / km
shoes: Montrail Highlander

French creek east. Not usually one of my better venues, particularly in the summer. But focused on avoiding big mistakes and it worked pretty well. First place in green, but some better runners were absent or ran Red. I thought about Red, but with the heat and my usual frustration here, I decided on green. Definitely still need lots of hill work.

Friday Jul 9, 2010 #

Road Running 51:00 [3] 5.4 mi (9:27 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Bollinger block in the AM. Already pretty hot, but not as bad as past few (record breaking) days. Just trying to get back into the swing of things. Hips (particularly left) still hurt when I try to pick up the pace.

Thursday Jul 8, 2010 #

Bike 35:00 [3] 6.0 mi (5:50 / mi)

Ride bike to car place to pick up truck. First time biking at "my" speed for a long while. Nice workout.

Monday Jul 5, 2010 #

Golf 2:00:00 [2] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

Usual 9 holes. Heat made it a physical challenge. Played OK (won the match)

Sunday Jul 4, 2010 #

Road Running 1:10:00 [3] 7.6 mi (9:13 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lippit bollinger loop. Hadn't run in a while (on travel), so it seemed like a nice easy long run before the heat gets really bad was in order. Left hip hurt the whole way around (too much time sitting in the car??).

Note

Past week mostly on travel and catching up on chores around the house. Some substantial hiking, but nothing too strenuous.
