Road Running 1:16:00 [3] 8.4 mi (9:03 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lippitt Bollinger loop. Nice day, but went out around noon so sun was still pretty intense. Felt lousy when I started and it seemed to go downhill from there. Not sure--just lots of aches and pains and no energy. Maybe the stress and lack of sleep is catching up...

Wednesday Aug 25, 2010 #

Road Running 32:00 [4] 4.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Around the block--~200-300m fast runs with jog in between. Core just doesn't seem ready for fast running. Maybe I should add "windsprints" like the good old days to every workout.
Time estimated.

Road Running 47:15 [3] 5.4 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Finally some "regular" running for a change. Many days in the woods left my lower legs pretty beat. After warming up, felt OK. Mostly a mental health run.

Monday Aug 23, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] **** 2.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Cont. Divide

Back out picking up more controls. We left them out to dry overnight. Some nice walking in the woods.

Sunday Aug 22, 2010 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Day of event--lots of running to/from start, hauling water, back to the car 10 times, picking up controls, etc. By the end of the day, I felt like I had run Blue.

Saturday Aug 21, 2010 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2] **** 4.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Hanging controls for Sunday. Nice day, lots of walking.

Thursday Aug 19, 2010 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] **** 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

More streamering at FCN. A couple boulder features that took forever to get confidence in. Otherwise nav a lot of fun, plus some running in a few places. Overall pretty good practice.

Wednesday Aug 18, 2010 #

Road Running 38:00 [4] 4.3 mi (8:50 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lewis mills block. ~300m pace runs on hills

Tuesday Aug 17, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:30:00 [2] **** 3.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Streamering for this weekend at FCN. In addition to being careful (as required), worked on some general map reading and bearing/distance skills.

Monday Aug 16, 2010 #

Golf 1:30:00 [2] 1.5 mi (1:00:00 / mi)

Finished 6 holes before the storms hit

Sunday Aug 15, 2010 #

Road Running 1:08:00 [4] 7.6 mi (8:57 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Grieson Bollinger loop. Cloudy and not too hot, so went for a longer run today. Didn't want to beat myself up too bad 'cause I'll be out late at the Paul McCartney concert in Philly. The usual hips/butt pains. Need to do something about that...

Thursday Aug 12, 2010 #

Road Running 35:00 [4] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Around the block with some pace runs thrown in. Not enough speed work lately. Pretty beat--perhaps not quite recovered from yesterday's trail run.

Wednesday Aug 11, 2010 #

Off-Road Running 1:00:00 [4] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +250m 8:51 / mi
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Trail running at FCN while Sam scouts out the last controls. Very hot and humid (and hilly). Pretty beat by the end of an hour.

Monday Aug 9, 2010 #

Golf 2:00:00 [2] 3.0 mi (40:00 / mi)

Didn't play well. Some sort of tendonitis in left elbow.

Sunday Aug 8, 2010 #

Off-Road Running 1:00:00 [4] * 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

One last trip to FCN before settling on courses. After a brief walk with Sam to the proposed finish area, I took off on a trail run. Substantial climb, but not too fast. Mostly mindless...

Saturday Aug 7, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] *** 3.0 mi (26:40 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Guide TR

Back out to FCN to check a few last things. Sam did the long stuff and I did less so I could go to the park office to ask some questions. No running to speak of, just some walking and bushwacking.

Friday Aug 6, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:45:00 [4] **** 7.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Another trial run at FCN--this time the green course (plus some modifications to pick up a few controls for Sam on Red. Felt better both physically and navigationally than yesterday. Weather was much nicer and less humid. Sam set a really nice course though much of what is still nice on that map. Still, I think most people are going to find these courses particularly challenging.

Thursday Aug 5, 2010 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [4] **** 8.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Montrail Highlander

Running the possible Red for FCN later this month. Also set out some water for Sam who was doing Blue. Neither of us finished in 2 hrs and had to bail and head for home. Navigation always a little slower when there is no flag to see (and feature to be confirmed). But the main problem was the vegetation. Wading through knee-deep ferns can take it out of you... But a very good training session combining good O'ing with some exercise. If I lived closer to FC, I'd be doing this a lot more.

Tuesday Aug 3, 2010 #

Road Running 39:06 [3] 4.3 mi (9:06 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lewis mills block. Some pace runs ~200m.

Sunday Aug 1, 2010 #

Road Running 1:14:30 [3] 8.4 mi (8:52 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid

Lippit Bollinger loop. Cloudy and not so hot, so decided to go LSD. Actually kept up a pretty good pace for most of it, working on form. Still dragging at the end--need more long stuff I guess.
