| This note kicks off my Attackpoint log. I've decided to "get serious" about my O'ing, having finished off my latest long-range goal--running the '06 Philly Marathon a few weeks ago.
I'm recovering from an ITB problem in my left knee caused by my too-quick ramp up in training prior to the marathon. So, I'll be working my way back slowly on the running front. But, recognizing that I lack any developed O'ing skills, there's plenty to work on in the mean time.
A bit about me--I'm pushing 50 but generally in good shape. I used to run middle distance track in HS and College--but that was 30 years ago. I started O'ing a couple years ago, but have only done a few events a year (mostly Green recently) with no effort to improve outside of the actual events.
I expect my running training will change a bit from what I'm used to, but the big change in my routine will be (trying) to spend more time in the woods building some good habits. I'm going to try to get 2 training days a week in the woods through the year.
On the running side, I expect the biggest change will be more quality running, particularly of the "threshold" variety, as well as runs in the woods to improve my technique there.
We'll see how well I stick to my intentions. I'm figuring that it will take about 2 years of focussed training to get to the point where I want to be--some respectable showings in regional A events (I know that's kind of vague...) |
