Was a bit of a rough start, but got stronger the second half.
Really great ride.

Did a couple of laps, pushing hard on all the hills.
Ran into Mario as well. That guys is incredible, he kept up with us for the most part on his single speed MTB. wow.
Had about 3 of Max's bakery vanilla slices after. kept em down too.

failed miserably.
felt crap from the start.
maybe something to do with 8days work in a row.
Itching to get on the road bike again.
I'm checking out a new used MTB today.

I realised i am screwed for orienteering training.
How can i feasibly do any orienteering before the 5days if i work every saturday and sunday? wish i could go back to being a full time vagrant.

Ride with Kerrin, Max and Reuben this morning before work.
Rode out to Warrandyte and back cause i had to make it in time for work.

Great morning for it. I had a good sleep but the legs are still really tired from working. 7days in a row now. fark that.

Fortunately everyone else was on an off morning so i felt good about myself. hahaha. i reckon Kez must have had less than 3hrs sleep, Max was rough too and Roubaix was a bit under the weather/had too much polution still left in his lungs from china.

But Max made sure we had plenty of good races. The whole way back we were racing to the top of every hill. Which was really fun, kept at him but couldn't get Max, Kerrin was close on occasions. Bloody great ride to get in the legs before work.

"TOUR DE BURBS"
first time tour de burbs.
Max has been talking me into it for ages.

Got some new toys on my roadie so had to test em out.
new Bontrager RL shoes, $50!!!! and a pair of new Conti Tyres GP4000. the new tyres make such a f ing diference. So much smoother.

By the time i was changed after work I was in a massive rush to make the 7pm start. So had a 30min ride to dump my bag at max's and while i was doing that the pack went passed. So i ahd an early chase and my legs were burning.

Since aths last tuesday my legs have felt heavier than mud soaked UGG boots. But the first 50min of this ride really woke them up. Max was warning me when all the hills were coming and i did fine just hanging onto the tale of the massive >60 group. Got dropped at the end cause me and around 10 others missed a green light, then I struggled home.

Did well for my first effort, now i know the course a little better, hopefully next week i will have some fresher legs. Bike was Ace. Recommend Morgan Blue chain lube aswell.

Ran Mel Uni Aths training for the first time in ages!
Luckily it was a track 400m session in pooring rain and wind.

did a longish warm up with strides streching and tempo stuff.

with around 85sec recovery.
Not sure what my times were. slow no doubt.
but i felt pretty good except died a lot on the last one

After some encouragement but more warning I took Kristine Mountain Biking. We stormed around the Westerfolds Park, devastating the resident wildlife with our speed....

Did another interval session down at the soccer oval.
Felt really good today.

ITB has been feeling good. Hayden Lebbink's Tensor Fascia Latae pressure point trick has done the deed on my tight ITB.
It needed a little stretching between efforts today but it has been great. I reckon I'll be getting stuck into it pretty good now.

Did a longer warm up today so the first efforts weren't as slow. Each was 2 laps of the soccer field. Did ~2min recovery on each of them.

6min wd

was only planning 4, but felt good and put in a really strong effort on the last one. Running form is getting a lot better.

Missed the morning ride after some technical issues, ie setting alarm but not turning it on.
Salvage ride with max, did two loops of the boulevard. Max smashed me, especially with his, "don't get passed," attitude. Had a really hard time with his constant change in tempo, but he was a patient riding buddy. Pacing me whenever he wasn't racing someone.
Some news in Max's orienteering; sounds like he might be eyeing off a few races. Went for a two hour training run yesterday, hopefully he can keep it up.

went down to the oval for a brief interval session this evening just to test the ITB out and loosen the legs.
ran 6xlaps of the oval with 1-1'30" recovery.
times:
77", 74", 64", 69", 72", 65"
wu and wd were too short really. only 5 min each.
knee was ok during effort but was still really hurting during wu, wd and recov.

Had a few nightmarish dreams about getting a puncture in the middle of no where, cause i hadn't brought any tools and there weren't many people around. But woke up the next morning as enthusiastic as ever.
The ride was stunning, straight through the Great Otways National Park, passing by waterfalls and beautiful vistas.
Fortunately the last part was mostly down hill into Apollo Bay.
Pleased that my ITB hadn't been too bothersome and still feeling relatively frsh i rolled in Apollo Bay. Got a massive pack of salt and vinegar chips then had a few hours on the beach swimming and getting sunburnt before I got the bus home.
Recommend that trip to anyone. Was brilliant, except Vline don't take bikes on their Buses which was a little tricky. The rail trail is Old Beechy Rail Trail.

There is a golf ball sized knot half way up my ITB.
Hopefully can stretch it/massage it out.

Good news is i am going crazy not training. like in the old days.

Spurred on by some sunny weather and a taste for adventure i caught the train to Colac. For those unfamiliar Colac is a pretty tip top place. From there i had planned to ride my shitty single speed down to the nearest part of the otways national park (around 25km).
Mid ride I found there was a rail trail along my exact route so i ended up following the this brilliant old rail trail along. Got to the town near where i wanted to stay, but decided i wanted to keep following the rail trail all the way along. So kept rideing until i finally made it to the end at a tiny little town up high in the Otway's called Beech Forrest. When I got there some mist was rolling in to ruin my night's plan. I had no tent. just my mat and sleeping bag in my little day pack.
During the ride, I semi hatched a plan to sleep at a camp by some nearby waterfalls and continue on to apollo bay the next morning.
After scaring a young local couple at the camp arriving after dark without lights on and probably looking a quite peculiar, as the fog started to lift i got a fire going. And settled down to rest after what had ended up being over four hours since i had left on a short ride.
