Running 42:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:30 / mi)

Another lovely day in the 'burgh. Recovery jog round the Hermitage.

Orienteering 1:22:35 [4] 7.1 mi (11:38 / mi)

SHI/RtC relay. Shattered after yesterday, wasn't much looking forward to this. Then I got a call to run in the relay with Alex and Freddie. This sounded like a lot more fun, and when Alex went through the spectator with the Czechs a minute clear of the SHI team it got more exciting. Freddie ran well, to come back with England 2 (!). Sadly, there was nothing in the tank, and the field ran through me on the long leg. Then, 5 minute error completely misjudging dune sizes. Next, 12 min error getting on the wrong ridge, and the world fell in. Trundled home in way slowest time, to find Freddie had skipped a control anyway.

Orienteering race 2:08:22 [5] 14.2 mi (9:02 / mi)

WRE M21E Balmoral. Won by Daniel Hubmann in 90. 66th/73 finishers + 16dnf

Epic. Fabulous area, fabulous day, fabulous course. Excellent map perfectly legible at 1:15 with judicious use of magnifier. Not, however, really designed for tired one legged 52-yr olds. May people passed me, and they were all moving at a different speed. No tows. Which is sad.

Orienteering race 57:31 [4] 6.5 mi (8:51 / mi)

JOK Chasing Sprint 3rd M40+
29:35 8th 27:56 3rd
Shambolic first run, finishing eighth.

A clean run on the second leg, some disaster befell the first 3, and. Even so, slower than Colin & Jon X who were blundering ahead. Which means slow!

Orienteering 40:00 [1] 3.0 mi (13:20 / mi)

Control collection.

Orienteering 24:00 [3] 2.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Warming up & down

Running intervals 24:00 [4] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

4*1200. Haries. 90 recovery
Surprising - hadn't intended to start this session. Certainly not to finish. Went off in the next-to-last group running about 4:45 from chat - hadn't bothered timing either. Still sore and blue.

Running warm up/down 1:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Various jogging.

Running 5:00 [2] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Lunchtime run. cold pissing rain. Got to the gate, turned round and went back.

Running 5:00 [2] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Run home. Got half way. walked

Circuits 20:00 [2]

With J&J at home. Bit comedy how bad I am at this.

Note

Arse very purple. Don't tell safety squirrel.

Orienteering race 23:00 [4] 3.0 mi (7:40 / mi)

RTC Stirling. First starter until Freddie Carcas got added to the list.
Caught Freddie early, despite being untidy in the castle, until flummoxed by levels at 7. Then steady, Scott Collier caught us, until crossed red lines sent me 13-16. Didn't know until I finished. Ooops.
Really superb course, even better than yesterday.

Massive wipe out on slippery cobbles at 4 in front of the marshals. Not an H&S issue, happens all the time, quoth I wiping the blood off the map as I limped away. Couple more falls later - interesting bum-colour in prospect.

Orienteering 56:42 [4] 7.0 mi (8:06 / mi)

So much fun earlier I was desperate to go out again! Got and entry, then got nailed by JonX to do a stint on the start. v.cold, and wobbled off into the castle again for broadly similar stuff, got going better and was 90 sec faster on the way out. Then the long legs began and the legs turned to jelly - wading through treacle in the end. Classic eyes bigger than belly error. (roll on M21E at Balmoral...)

Note

Big success for today: James! A first, and massive moral victory over me, he was 2 mins up before I mp'ed. He had a few moments of glory in the winners chair before Tam Wilson took over.

One more thing to get used to.

Orienteering race 23:53 [5]

RTC Edinbrgh WRE sprint. 61/85 Yannick Michiels 17:30. Marginal legality, but I hadn't actually looked at the courses (and still made a couple of errors) and was well run out of it by the younger legs. Fun as ever!

Running warm up/down 45:00 [1] 4.0 mi (11:15 / mi)

Various jogging, warmup, down and faffage

Friday Oct 10, 2014 #

Orienteering race 21:00 [3] 2.5 mi (8:24 / mi)

RTC sprint.
Despite having made the map, couldn't make any sense of it off the start, then ran 1-16 and got completely baffled by the tunnel under the level under the canopy. Missed the route for the long leg. Struggling to follow the map afterwards.

Tremendous area. Night-Sprint is HARD. so little time to look at where you're going.
