Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 20.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

They've started naming storms. I guess the temptation to start with A-big-gale was too much, understandably. But the upcoming threats include Hurricane Nigel and Storm Wendy. Really? I think the novelty will wear off.

Anyway, today was Storm Desmond, and sure enough we awoke to clear blue skies and light winds over the 'Burgh. Cycle time. Out to the seat, innocent railway, fort, Newton, Wisp, the bike path to Loanhead and back around Oxgangs road. Cycling in the wind feeling the power of youth when it was behind, and the grace of a geriatric tortoise into the head wind. All good and sweet, swept round the turn at Midmar and the bike decided that, on balance, it would rather go straight on. Off balance, no compromise, down we went. Took a bigger-than-any-available bandage quota of skin off the thigh, and did something very uncunning to the shoulder. Won't be doing that again for a while. Ooops.

Orienteering 35:17 [3] 4.0 mi (8:49 / mi)

Green course at Mortonhall. New map, but I got out too late/dark to read it under cloudy skies. And it was p*ssing down. So, basically, all good fun and nice to be jogging around.

Orienteering 20:00 [1] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Collecting controls

Note

Just saw that worldofO have nominated the WOC men's relay as course of the year. Which I'm doubly pleased at, because it's the only one that wasn't buggered up by the SEA. Apart from the last control, obviously.

Running 35:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Hermitage. Running slowly, aka jogging inefficiently. Basically trying to keep good form without trying to go fast.

Running 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Craigmillar loop on the grass, back at a normal pace for a steady run. Nice to be out in the daylight, but not "there" yet injurywise.

Running 30:00 [3] 4.1 mi (7:19 / mi)

Hermitage. Nice

Running 48:00 [2] 5.0 mi (9:36 / mi)

In, out, down to the meadows with James, watch session, jog back. Getting there, patiently.

Note

After years of being left out, and a weekend of grumping about not getting to go to Hawkshead, James finally got into the regional squad, and is duly delighted.

One might think its about bloody time: he's won BOC at sprint, middle, long and relay, first back in JIRCs relay and won the CompassSport Trophy heat. But it just means some other kid misses out.

Running 28:00 [2] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi)

Long way home. Not sore, but a bit off colour.
