They've started naming storms. I guess the temptation to start with A-big-gale was too much, understandably. But the upcoming threats include Hurricane Nigel and Storm Wendy. Really? I think the novelty will wear off.
Anyway, today was Storm Desmond, and sure enough we awoke to clear blue skies and light winds over the 'Burgh. Cycle time. Out to the seat, innocent railway, fort, Newton, Wisp, the bike path to Loanhead and back around Oxgangs road. Cycling in the wind feeling the power of youth when it was behind, and the grace of a geriatric tortoise into the head wind. All good and sweet, swept round the turn at Midmar and the bike decided that, on balance, it would rather go straight on. Off balance, no compromise, down we went. Took a bigger-than-any-available bandage quota of skin off the thigh, and did something very uncunning to the shoulder. Won't be doing that again for a while. Ooops.
