Orienteering 58:56 [3] 4.6 mi (12:49 / mi)

Leith Hill middle. Lots of errors, generally sloppy in and out of the quarries. tried to follow the paths, which sometimes worked, and sometimes didn't.
Quite hard to see the map in the dark and rain (so much for magnifier!) - spent a lot of time standing still, with most of the errors in the circle. Generally quite frustrating, since crawling round old quarries isn't much fun when you're doing it badly.

Charlie won in 38.

Orienteering 45:00 [1] 2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

Control collecting. I went out without a compass into the most technical area. Found them all first time. How? Why?

Orienteering race 35:00 [4] 4.5 mi (7:47 / mi)

Sprint champs at olympic park.

1. 17:09 Failed to qualify. Set off hard, and was shocked to be caught by Caban within 5 controls (1min, parallel course). Continued to push hard as it was very very easy, then suffered a 1 min brain fade at the end reading the contours upside down after getting pushed off line by having to avoid olive. Idiot.
Dibber failed to register the last control, just like last year, but this time not DQed. Not sure what was going on.

2. 15:21 3rd in B final. Worse than the first heat, three significant errors on another easy course - basically pushing too hard and never got the concentration going. There were a couple of traps, and into them I went. Idiot.

Quite disappointed today, felt way off the pace and too apathetic to concentrate well.

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [1] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Quite a bit of faffage

Note

Spilts came out, and are quite revealing. On the down side, I'm losing about a minute on running speed over the sprint, but people other than Quentin are still making enough mistakes that it would have been possible to medal if I held it together technically. I completely misread how much time people lose under pressure even in easy courses. After WOC, I should know this!
