Orienteering 1:22:49 [3] 6.7 mi (12:22 / mi)

Northern Champs, M55 Wass. Selection race for James.
Had no expectation of finishing this, but in fact it was nicer than expected, after 1-2 was horrible, so trundled round. Bit comedic trying to get through the rocks, and very slow, but nice to finish without much time loss to navigation, Lost a couple of mins on the long leg, par running speed, but also having nailed the pathroute routechoice decision, flapped about midway looking to avoid some climb and distance when just needed to get on with it.
maybe lost 2-3 minutes at the end with a couple of wobble.

Thirsk Urban. Open 13/18

Entered this before the knee flared up again, but it seemed like a chance to get some running in with a map to take mind off the pain. Didn't really work, generally very sloppy, and slow with one massive error running off the map. Course was quite prosaic, especially compared to James special selection race at York Uni in the morning which looked superb.

Note

Watched a gg-organised trial of the "New Sprint" head to head format at York. Looks like fun for the athletes, not so much for the organisers. First part was baffled, and the lead group from the gaffles stayed ahead. With Kris towing the pack, nobody was in position for a sprint finish.
Big challenge for the planner is whether to set a "best" leg that the athletes have to find, or balance it for "fairness", meaning athletes can spend the time memorising the chosen route.

Longniddry sprintelope. 5k. Knee not very happy, but ibuprofen got it over the line. Running like a beached whale, but didn't make any mistakes and didn't fall over.
