Monday Apr 30

Road Running 45:00 [3]
Out with Phatty despite feeling a little tired. Still don't have my voice back which makes work interesting to say the least.
Note
(sick)

Sunday Apr 29

Mountain Biking 4:15:00 [3]
Out with Phatty on the roads and rail trail around Caledon. Over to Inglewood to pick up some bike stuff and then onto the Forks of the Credit for some hill riding. The legs emptied out after about an hour and a half after yesterday's race so Phatty had to listen to me complain. Actually the fact that I had lost my voice completely meant that he missed most of the complaining. I didn't feel really sick just a little tired and irritated that there wasn't any noise coming out of my mouth.....beautiful day for a ride though..
Note
(sick)
No voice and lots of phlegm..mmmmmm

Saturday Apr 28

Event: 5 PEAKS TRAIL RUN (Albion Hills)

Trail Running 51:36 [5]
The 5 peaks trail run which was a lot of fun! I was feeling the start of a cold coming on and used this as my prerace excuse but in the end I felt okay running and actually ended up 4th in my category. Not bad for a non-runner. Couldn't quite close that 11 minute gap between myself and Hansel - next time. Slice was there to cheer us on and was entirely responsible for me sprinting to the finish to beat another girl in my category who I had run with for the last 6 kms....thanks Slice.
Orienteering 2:15:00 [1]
Out with the highschool kids from Mayfield to practice some navigating before their highschool adventure challenge next weekend. Lots of fun and great practice with the topos after a winter of using orienteering maps. The kids were amazed at the size of the swamps that weren't shown on the map....confusing for them but fun!
Note

Wednesday Apr 25

Road Riding 2:15:00 [3]
Same loop as on Friday but picked up the intensity just a bit.

Tuesday Apr 24

Trail Running 1:10:00 [2]
Bash and I decided to pre-run the 5 peaks race course for this coming weekend at Albion Hills. We figure this will allow us to crush Hansel and his super-speedy girlfriend Slice by at least 20 minutes. Well maybe not but it was fun to get out on the course. A gorgeous day and Bash was wearing her fancy new Garmin GPS, HRM, rocket launching watch so we will be able to see exactly how fast we were going at specific times...fun stuff to see. It will be nice if the weekend weather is like today...sunny and just a little cool. Perfect running weather.

Paddling 1:00:00 [2]
Headed out on Lake Couchiching before coming back to work. I got out before the dark clouds approached and just tried to concentrate on technique more than anything. I really want to get a good amount of paddling in before the MIX and Extreme but don't know how likely that will be.
C • Maybe Friday afternoon? 4

Sunday Apr 22

Mountain Biking 2:20:00 [3]
What a day for a ride! I went out to the 8th line and Edgar-Rugby (Old Barrie) Rd. where there are amazing single track trails for miles - no charge!!! I saw a few guys out there and there were just one or two patches of snow left but the forest was mostly dry. A number of trees across the trails in spots and overgrown bushes left my legs scratched and bleeding by the end of it.

Of course the first real ride of the year had me bumping into trees on corners and falling more than I should have but I have to work out the kinks at some point...Would have been nice to have company but I didn't know who was nearby to call. Next time I will be more organized and set up a group ride.

Saturday Apr 21

Road Running 1:30:00 [3]
Since I had to work on Sat. am and missed riding with the boys Tiny told me I had to log at least an hour and a half today at some point. As much as I didn't feel like it I went out running on the roads and railtrail in Orillia after dropping Phatty at the airport for his week in France...apparently he is doing his best to make the Salomon Raid packs more useful (more mesh, no bike helmet holder). Beautiful weather and I felt much better after forcing myself to go...followed it up with a yummy steak dinner!

Friday Apr 20

Road Riding 2:30:00 [3]
Couldn't resist the beautiful day so I headed out on the roads and some trails around Caledon. The mountain bike feels great (thanks to Bent) and what a day for riding. Thank goodness for Friday afternoons off!!!

Wednesday Apr 18

Trail Running 1:00:00 [4]
Phatty and I headed out on the muddy HVT for an evening trail run. I felt like crap.....I am having a hard time breathing and I hope it doesn't have anything to do with allergies or something like that. I seem to have this problem in the summer and spring and never in the winter though. I put it at a 4 because my heart rate was up since I couldn't get any O2 but the speed was average.

Tuesday Apr 17

Trail Running 45:00 [3]
Met up with Bash for our weekly mud run on the HVT. We were both feeling a little short of breath for some reason. Slippery and muddy and I only went half way down once - not bad...

Off the see the dentist for a cleaning so hopefully there isn't a nasty headwind as I ride up there...
Road Riding 40:00 [5]
Up to the dentist again for a cleaning....headwind wasn't as bad but I still had to push it. Tried out the newly rehauled mountain bike...The ride turned into a frustration-fest as my chain skipped all over the place. Of course I could only get it to stick in one of the hardest gears making it a mash session up to Palgrave. Luckily my dentist's office is a one stop shop and he tuned my gears perfectly while I sipped tea in the waiting room by the fire.....and I used to hate going to the dentist!!!
Road Riding 30:00 [4]
With the wind on the way home and the gears were shifting beautifully.....thanks Bent!!!!

Sunday Apr 15

Orienteering 1:42:00 [5]
I opted for the advanced course (gotta get my money's worth) and boy was it worth it. Raced at the Forks of the Credit and once again the legs felt heavy and sort of numb. Three loops and I even forgot about the 3rd until they handed me the map - damn! Got some field instruction from Nick so that was helpful but Phatty and I just couldn't get out for a ride later in the day....when is this crappy weather going away???

Saturday Apr 14

Road Running 1:10:00 [3]
Phatty and I headed out on the roads and railtrail of Orillia. I felt like doo-doo. The legs just don't feel strong. Maybe they aren't recovered from last weekend but that seems like a long time to recover....

Friday Apr 13

Road Riding 1:10:00 [5]
On my way to my dentist appointment - Friday the 13th -aaagghhh. It wasn't as bad as I thought - my new dentist is AWESOME!

One word for the ride on the way there - HEADWIND. I was in the easiest gear going downhill - fierce.
Road Riding 40:00 [4]
Made it home a lot faster than on the way there. I actually felt like someone was pushing me up the hills. Felt good because my dentist said I have textbook perfect TMJ function. As a chiro I can appreciate the movement of a healthy joint!!!!

Wednesday Apr 11

Road Running 40:00 [3]
Phatty and I headed out in the windy cold, blah weather to run off a bit of the leftover tightness from our weekends. My legs felt okay but near the end my hips and knees were a little sore. Hopefully the stretching that I am now going to be soooooo dedicated to will alleviate those pains.

Sunday Apr 8

Trekking 20:30:00 [2]
Travelling across the ridges at night was difficult as some of the cairns are difficult to see and some people had REALLY CRAPPY headlamps (T-dot). You would think after 10 years of AR and numerous Eco-challenge and international races she would have a decent headlamp....So we had to spread out to search at points and with the fatigue setting in we were sometimes doing a half-assed job of searching so it took a while. The chatter mellowed during the night and it seemed that the pit stops were coming more frequently.

We spent a lot of time on ridges during the night because of the time we had to start but we did manage to get a couple of great views in as the sun came up and boy was that a pick-up! Not only that the sky was clear and the sun was warming us up.....

I had the map and was impressed with the kms we were covering across the northern section of the trail and could see that as we started to head south on the map there was a large flat section on that I thought we would cover pretty quickly - WRONG! This section was drawn as a straight line on the map but was really tortuous once we got there. I started to give us time goals to landmarks so that we could stay focussed but when we were 1 1/2 hours off of our first goal we got a little deflated and realized we might be out after dark again - oops!

A lot of new beaver dams and wet lowlands made for some long detours as we were trying to keep our feet somewhat dry (lost cause).

Talk of our post-trek burrito feast had us motivated to pick up the pace and with T-dot singing songs of bacon and walking at a breakneck pace we covered a bit more ground....

FINALLY after almost 29 hours of trekking we reached the much anticipated bridge at the campground - thank god. Our trek wasn't over though as we searched for the trail to the main office in our sleep deprived state. Our feet and knees were throbbing and we were lost - in the campground. Eventually we found the cars, set up camp, made a fire and some delicious burritos and even had a celebratory beer! It still took a bit of time to fall asleep (for Slice and I anyway) as there was a vicious animal fight outside our tents. As soon as I confirmed it wasn't a bear to La Femme she was out cold but Slice and I continued to listen to what we thought was a rabid fox until we just couldn't stay awake anymore.....

A great trip (more so after the fact) with amazing scenery (I have to go back and do this as a more leisurely hiking/camping trip) and spectacular company......at breakfast the next day we laughed hysterically over tales of the trip and even forgot the pain to say we would be back (or at least we would pick another adventure for our girls weekend)

I will be posting a shot for the photo contest later today!

Thanks ladies!

Saturday Apr 7

Event: Giant's Rib Raid

Trekking 8:30:00 [2]
Started the La Cloche Silouette Trail in Killarney Provincial Park with La Femme, Dog Runner, Slice, and T-dot! I was concerned about getting my feet cold since it was snowing so decided to wear my warm but uncomfortable hiking boots to start and brought my XA pros. By the time we walked through the campsite to the trail head my feet were sore so I had to change there. Off we went. There was a light dusting of snow on the trail and rocks but weren't slipping so all was good.....the scenery was stunning off of the start and we were in good spirits....

As darkness fell the snow started, lightly but it was starting to accumulate on the rocks and with frozen run-off the trail became a little more slick. We had frozen bladder hose issues and silent thoughts of "should we be doing this" but for some reason we kept walking forward.

With 7 hours down and a possible 17+ to go we just couldn't conceive that it was faster to go back (don't ask) so we kept going into the night......

Thursday Apr 5

Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:00:00 [2]
Pathetic ride on the trainer while watching "Days of Our Lives". I don't know why Sammi doesn't just tell Lucas that she is having EJ's baby????

More convos with the bike mechanic and the price continues to rise. I am trying to pull out all of the stops to get deals on parts, including calling an ex-boyfriend who is a bike mechanic. Hey whatever works right!

Strength training 30:00 [3]
Push-ups, curls, squats, lunges, intermixed with some stretching...no blasting here.

Tuesday Apr 3

Trail Running 1:00:00 [2]
Once again hit the muddy HVT with Bash. We missed Crash who is getting ready for Boston at this point in time but ran into Slowrunner who was headed in the opposite direction. She was getting all excited telling us about a 125 mile mountain run for next year and that she has to find a partner. We quickly threw out a couple of names and took off! Glad we got out before the storm - if it comes...

Yoga 1:00:00 [1]
A much needed yoga session. It's just been far too long!

Sunday Apr 1

Road Riding 4:45:00 [4]
With STORM and Phatty on the roads around here. STORM was a trooper riding knobbies the whole way. I was getting dropped on the hills from the get-go. My legs were tired from yesterdays run and they didn't seem to get any stronger - uugh. Cold and windy with hills - good workout.
Road Running 1:20:00 [3]
Definitely felt the ride from yesterday. Phatty and I braved the crappy weather to head out on the roads. Not much gas in the tank but at least I could move.

The rest of the day consisted of lounging around, we couldn't even muster up the motivation to do laundry - sad!
