| Out on the roads of Caledon with Phatty and STORM. I was a little tired from yesterdays run and started to get dropped on the hills from the get-go - yikes. Huge kudos to STORM for riding the knobbies the whole way. Phatty and I are still waiting for our MTN bikes to get fixed and after a convo with the mechanic yesterday it looks like it is going to cost me a pretty penny.
Cold, windy, and hilly on the ride so it was a good workout but it was all I could do to hold on! | ||

| Decided to run with my MP3 player and it seems whenever I do this on the trails I have deer run right out in front of me and scaring the sh*t out of me because I don't hear them. Ran faster because of the tunes - nothing like a little "JT" to make you run faster. | ||

| Met up with STORM, team Beowulf, and Mike for a brick workout near Georgetown. Started with a 1hr20min road ride and Phatty and I were the cheaters with road bikes while everyone else had MTN bikes. Ours are in the shop - seriously. | ||

| Three sprints at the Thomass eliminator and guess who got eliminated. Although there is a lot of talk about people missing a control on the first course. Maybe I didn't get eliminated after all. Did okay until the final course when I blew by my last control - oops! Fun courses but crappy weather. | ||

| Great trail run with Bash and Crash along the HVT. A little chillier than I had anticipated and my bottom paid the price. The trail is getting a little less slick but there are still some mini-glaciers spilling over it in spots. Great fun running with other people - we'll have to make it a regular occurance... | ||

| Hilton Falls area Thomass race and I didn't have Slice to accompany me this time - boo hoo! I was warned to pace count and follow my bearing closely since the terrain is pretty flat but the course wasn't that difficult and you could almost see one control from the next so I managed okay despite tired legs from Saturday....Congrats to Bash for taking the race and elbowing Mark Adams out of the way for the win...... | ||

| Out on the HVT with the MIX team. The body felt good except for some cramping. We made our way south from near Bash and Bent's house to our place. The trail was really slippery from melted snow that had refrozen into a nice long sheet of ice. We all managed to go down a couple of times and I think Tiny had the only lasting damage with a bruise.....great way to start the day before heading into TO to see the Banff Film Festival films....amazing, inspiring, beautiful, and so creative. I am thinking maybe I should bring along some extra batteries for my camera to enter a film next year from this year's RTN Extreme race in Prince Rupert. Nothing like a few minutes of some sleep deprived teammates in the middle of the night in the middle of the Canadian wilderness..... | ||

| We were a little more conservative today but knew we had to move well to get all of the controls, especially on sore feet. So an hour and a half after everyone else left Phatty and I headed out. Today felt better surprisingly (except the feet) and we were able to run a lot of the course. We also got to see Tiny and Fast Eddie and Bash and Bent on the course.
With about 10 minutes to spare we were headed toward the finish only to see Bash and Bent flying out on their skate skis to get a couple of more controls. They were determined to use them since they brought them all the way down there. With about 2 minutes to go they were back! So in the end Phatty and I just got enough points to claim 1st in the co-ed categorty while Bash and Bent were right behind us for second. Good Canadian showing. Tiny and Fast Eddie were the victors from our crew by one hundred points and were 4th in the all-male category (third place was captured by a man who wore camoflage spandex with a bright orange hunting jacket - scary stuff). All in all a great event, only $35 for the whole thing, and a fun road trip down in the "bullfrog" van. | ||

| To the "Snowgaine" in New York with Bash, Bent, Phatty, Tiny, and Fast Eddie! Any mode of non-motorized travel was allowed so we saw bikes, skis, and snowshoes. Phatty and I just had snowshoes so the decision on what to use would be easy. With little rogaine experience and not much time with the maps we quickly plotted a course and off we went (a couple of minutes late but what was that over 8 hours). The day consisted of climbing, descending, crossing ski hills, addressing my blister issues many times, and lots of snowshoeing. With lofty goals we had plotted most of the controls in one section and about halfway through realized this might not be attainable. And we were getting further away from the start/finish area. If you went over the allowable 8hours then you were penalized by taking the time you were late, multiplying by three, and then starting that much later on day 2.
After abondoning a 100 point control because we were trying to avoid private property (which apparently you could go on if it wasn't close to someone's house - and you didn't get caught by the land owner) we made our way back toward the road to run home. On the map the 8km didn't look long but after 8hours of snowshoeing it was a real struggle to get back. We made it but we were 31 minutes late which meant a 10:03 am start the next day instead of 8:30 am - oops! | ||

| Ran from the clinic to meet Slowrunner again for the second portion of the HVT. Gorgeous day. I have to laugh at these people who come into the clinic and complain about the cold when it is sunny and warm (relatively) out there. Saw a big beautiful deer on the way to meet Slowrunner. | ||

| Phatty stole the quiet trainer so I had to use my old one which is soooooooo loud it gives me a headache. I only lasted 35 minutes and couldn't take it anymore (good excuse huh?) The resistance on it is also so low and won't change even when I am in the hardest gear so it is more like a light spin workout. | ||

| Hit Algonquin Park with Phatty and my big Sis! While "The Bakes" went birding the three of us went south from the Western Uplands parking lot overland to hit some lakes. SLOW going in there and thankfully Phatty took the lead with his long legs because the snow was knee deep with snowshoes on. Hip deep in some parts. Absolutely gorgeous in there and to top it off we saw a large bull moose about 5 minutes in! Gotta love Algonquin. Sunny for most of the day and with the exception of one close call on a lake (shin deep slush) a perfect day. Found out there are lots of nordic trails in there too (found this out when we saw flourescent colours streaking by in the woods in front of us) - will have to go back for those. Tough on the hip flexors. | ||
