Event: Infiterra Sports Michigan MIX

Tuesday May 22

Trail Running 1:00:00 [2]
Perfect temperature for a run along the HVT with Bash. We both felt better than last week and are wondering if it has something to do with the heat. Not good since this summer is supposed to be a cooker! Breaking in the new XA pros for the race next week.
Note
1 hour powerwalk with the group which I won't add as time anymore but my legs feel a lot better when I do more walking in addition to the other stuff - greater stretch in the muscles I guess.....
Yoga 20:00 [0]
With Phatty to stretch out the legs - wow have I ever dropped the ball on the yoga.....

Monday May 21

Mountain Biking 1:50:00 [3]
Phatty and I went out on the roads around Caledon and ended up at Bash and Bent's house for some bike tune-ups and a drink! Beautiful day out and ended up hanging out for a few hours playing with the dogs and stealing gear for the Michigan race. We also discovered that we will have absolutely no problem fitting all of our gear and our team into their van which they have kindly lent us for the week. We are officially sponsored by the Treehuggers!!!
C • Do us proud! 3

Sunday May 20

Road Running 38:00 [3]
Ran around town after spending time putting some of our gear together. Legs felt a little tight......definitely have to do some yoga this week...line up my chakras before the MIX!

Saturday May 19

Paddling 2:30:00 [3]
Tiny and K, the hotshot lawyer, Phatty and I all met in Orillia at my parent's house for some team bonding and race prep (oh and I also suckered them into putting in the dock). We went out on the water in a couple of canoes and a kayak and tested out our towing setup and the sail that Hansel lent us. We decided unless there is a hurricane headed in the right direction the sail is a little finnicky and that the hot shot lawyer makes budgo tow systems (back to the shop). Great day out and we even broke up our little jaunt with a beer pit stop at my friend's cottage. I figure this sounds like an FB training session!! I could be wrong about the time on this so we will see what the boys say.

Friday May 18

Trail Running 1:15:00 [2]
Nice easy run on the HVT before going to my cousin's wedding.

Thursday May 17

Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:00:00 [3]
While watching the office season finale....

Tuesday May 15

Trail Running 1:03:00 [2]
Bash and I did the usual run but both of us were feeling pretty sluggish. It's going to take some getting used to the heat, luckily there was a breeze today.

Monday May 14

Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:40:00 [2]
I really don't think Hockey playoffs should run so far into the summer.......I should have been outside riding but wouldn't be able to watch the game so I suffered inside. At least it was a good game!!!!
Note
A good 25 minutes of stretching while watching the bachelor. Once again I called who was going home only no-one to share the fun with since the boys are away.

Sunday May 13

Note
Sat my butt in a motorboat for water safety at Storm the Trent. Only one capsize right after Sean said "go". Well only one that we saw, apparently there were two others - oops!

Great fun watching all of the racers today though - it still inspires me to see people take on something new and challenging. I don't think anybody was cut off of the course either...
C • thanks! 4

Saturday May 12

Mountain Biking 1:45:00 [3]
With Phatty from Bash and Bent's place through Palgrave and then down into Albion to do the O-Cup course for tomorrow - fun course. Lots of super duper riders out. One was kind enough to help Phatty with his gears.....his are fine now but mine need some work, might be time to get back to the dentist!!! Off to help out with Storm the Trent tomorrow, should be fun!
C • Glad other people got to enjoy our place! 3

Friday May 11

Mountain Biking 50:00 [2]
Warm-up ride up to Bash and Bent's through Albion Hills so that I could leave my bike there and run back down on the trails.
Trail Running 2:10:00 [2]
A nice easy pace along the trails and sideroads home from Bash and Bent's. Great day for a run and I was feeling pretty strong. Ran with a pack on too so I had my water and food and didn't have to worry about dehydrating myself again....should be running with a pack all of the time anyway....

Wednesday May 9

Mountain Biking 2:00:00 [3]
Headed up to Albion for some singletrack fun....trails are in great shape but I kept getting turned around because they are changing the direction of some of the trails and have added fun new rocky sections and log piles. Perfect weather and the gears just seem a little off. I couldn't quite pinpoint why (big surprise there). I think Bent and I agreed we are going to make Wednesday mornings a weekly ride but I thought I would let him get his handlebars fixed first....

I felt strong on the hills which I am happy about because sometimes I worry about my power....

Tuesday May 8

Trail Running 1:45:00 [2]
A lower intensity but extremely painful run along the HVT. I was missing my Tuesday partner Bash as she is fighting a cold and trying to get rid of it before Storm the Trent this weekend. I had also only had a coffee in the morning, no water, a large lunch and then decided to go for a long run. I have never been so dehydrated in my life. I kept looking at the Humber river and almost couldn't resist sticking my face in there for a few gulps - I said almost!

A few beavers have been busy on the trail just west of Duffy's lane as there are several new large trees down across the trail.

I barely made it home, gulped down about 4 large glasses of water and orange juice - knowing it wasn't a good idea but I couldn't help myself - and then promptly ran to the bathroom to throw it up and had to start all over again with smaller sips this time.......ugghgh. It was warm out too and I am starting to remember what it is like running in the summer!!!
C • Sorry I had to miss it 4

Sunday May 6

Trekking 40:00 [2]
Following a couple of highschool teams through the bush on their trek to make sure they were headed in the right direction. They were so much fun to follow and listen to.

Followed T-dot back from the river to CP3 through heinous deadfall and thick bush. We complained the whole way and decided it's only fun when you are racing!

Saturday May 5

Event: Fronteir Adventure Racing - Adventure Challenge

Adventure Racing 6:40:00 [4]
Formerly known as the "adidas Divas", the Salomon Bobkittens were back to take on the first Adventure Challenge course of the year. Slice, T-dot, and I teamed up for a new configuration of racers and decided that we would start the race (a fast paved road ride) by trying to hold on to the back of the front pack. We would draft and if a team broke early with too much speed we would let them go and stick with the next pack. We had made a mistake in another race of trying to push too hard at the start and spent too much time trying to recover.

The pace was great off the start and it seemed like no one team was going to break and work on their own off of the start line so we just stuck with the pack. The ride was fun and we were up with the top 5 teams into CP1. We made the decision to backtrack to the road to avoid having to make decisions on trails that weren't on the map and it appeared to pay off as we jumped ahead of a couple of teams. We got to the first TA with Beowolf, Kinetic Konnection, and SRS and we all headed out on the trek at around the same time. By the time we made our way through the bush to CP4 Beowolf had jumped ahead of us and we were in 3rd. As we crossed the river we saw SRS coming in behind us to the CP. Now we had to find a snowmobile trail or try bushwhacking. We found a trail a little sooner than I would have thought but it was heading the right direction so Slice hooked T-dot up on tow as she was having a little GI distress and we moved well on the trail to the road and into TA 2. We saw Beowolf here just getting into their boat and after a quick TA we were in the boat as SRS came into the TA.

The paddle was okay (despite sitting in the middle) but this is where I think we have a disadvantage as an all-female team. SRS passed us on the portage as Slice and I had the boat on our shoulders and Benoit trotted by. It would be a great feat to catch them on the water so we just tried to maintain a steady pace. I jumped out of the boat at the optional rapid and ran the shore while the girls ran the rapid no problem. I wouldn't have been much help in the boat anyway as I was still woozy from being whacked in the head by Slice's paddle - thank goodness we had to wear helmets. Back in the boat I thought we were going to be really tight to make the 3 pm cutoff and I saw one potential area to cut off a loop on the river but by the time we got there it appeared that the river had changed and all of a sudden we were at the TA in a panic to get out on the advanced. Then we were told it had been extended by an hour. Phew!

Onto the advanced bike we hit some ATV trails and luckily didn't make any wrong turns.. the riding was a little slow in parts but we pushed on until I got a flat. We didn't know how far behind the next team was so speedy T-dot changed the tire, we pumped it and topped it with CO2 and then climbed back on our bikes. Once we hit the road we were cruising and really pushed the pace to the finish line.

Coming in fourth overall was great in such a strong field and once again we had a blast racing togther. We even saw a little kitten on the course and thought this was a good omen considering our new name.

Great weekend, great course, amazing weather.....

Mountain Biking 1:45:00 [3]
On the way to the dentist again for some more extensive work, although not as extensive as it's going to get. Word of advice - don't avoid the dentist for 10 years! Rode some of the singletrack at Albion on the way there and back and it's in great shape. Another beautiful day.

I was also treated to a wonderful treat when I arrived at the office. A yummy, nutritious scone made by Crash. I think I may have found my new expedition AR food.

Bet you all wish your dental experiences were as great as mine!

Cruised over to Caledon Hills Cycling to have my new rear wheel put on. Beautiful day and I have to say that my new wheels look SSAAAWWWEEET!

Still don't have my full voice back but I hope it gets there soon...
C • twas the week before race day . . . 3

Thinking maybe I shouldn't do anything today so I can try to shake this thing before the race on the weekend!
