| On the roads over to Phatty's work. Nice day but major headwind getting over to the 400. Hated riding in the traffic once I got closer to his work. Not sure why people insist on coming so close when the lanes are 1 1/2 times the width of their car. I can see why there are a lot of fingers flipped by riders who are in traffic often. | ||

| On the HVT after work. Wow is it ever dry. I almost felt like I was running on pavement. Legs still feel a little sluggish after the weekend but it was good to get out on the feet again. | ||

| Met up with Bent, Crash, el jeffe, Pate, and Doug for some great riding around Albion this morning. The temperature was great and once again it was great to get out with people although we missed Bash. Hopefully those feet heal soon. | ||

| Bash and I decided to join up for this year's North American Rogaine in St. Adele, QC. I was determined to break the curse of all of her previous teammates becoming ill and thankfully I did. Although by the end of it I may have reversed the curse...ooops!
Having only one hour to prepare our route after getting the maps Bash promptly pulled out all of her mapping gear and we had chosen a route that was 65km straight line and had options for dropping controls on the fly. In the pouring rain we were off. It has all become a bit of a blur as far as control numbers etc. go but look to Bash's log for all of the stats - I know they will be there. We worked well together with Bash making most of the major route choice decisions and me trying to help out when I could. Some memories from the race that stick out are - Dr. Wells and C.P. scaring the living daylights out of us at our 3rd control by what seemed like dropping out of the sky behind us (they did it one more time at another control before I asked them to start talking more so we could hear them coming) - spending a fair bit of the night with Mique and Storm as Mique and Bash's feet got worse and worse (Mique described them as apricotty) - getting chased by 2 big scary dogs at 3:30am with Mique and Storm as we tried to take a shortcut even though we had been warned against taking this route because of the dogs (I kind of thought they would be asleep). - shuffling along the railtrail to the finish line to claim first place in the women's division with over 1500 points - yippee! Had a great race with Bash and learned a lot about rogaining - now if we could just figure out what to do about the feet.

| Rode up to meet Bash and Bent for a ride at Albion Hills. We rode the loop for the Hot August Nights that Chico is putting on this weekend. Fun stuff. Only wiped out once and it was on a nice soft sandy bit so the landing was comfy.... The rain held off but the little bit of mist in the air was just enough to slick up the roots. Great to get out with people for a change, I'll be there next week too for sure. | ||

| Out with Bash on the HVT. We tested out our tow systems for this weekends 24 hr Rogaine in the Laurentians so I think we are ready to go. Weather was cool and cloudy but it made for great running weather...We also discussed how we could make our outfits for this weekend more "girly"! We will start with the pink Salomon XA Pro 3D's and go from there..... | ||

| Road Running 1:00:00 [4] | ||
| Really felt the guilt of not doing the triathlon with Phatty today. My left knee started to hurt at about 40 minutes but I really started to emphasize stride length and that helped. The pain completely went away when I forcefully kicked my leg out in front of me and heard a "snap" at my proximal tib-fib joint!!! Gotta love self-chiropractic.... | ||

| Mountain Biking 2:30:00 [3] | ||
| Out at Albion Hills by myself. Super fun to be on single track but the trails are really dry. It started to rain just as I was leaving to ride home but I don't think it was enough to soften the trails..... | ||

| On the HVT - hot and humid - ugghggh. No Cougar sightings, except for me that is! That was for Phatty! Legs feel a little better except for some intense knee pain I had on my left leg, Luckily I know what it is and I can get Nigel to dig into my Biceps Femoris tomorrow and then adjust my proximal tib-fib joint and I should be fine.... | ||

| Trail Running 42:00 [3] | ||
| With Bash on the HVT. The legs were feeling quite stiff after the weekend and I foolishly wore new inserts in my shoes to run and was developing a blister.....so we walked the end of the trail since we have our upcoming Rogaine in a week and a half. I think I will need healthy feet for that one. | ||

| The Grand River was EXTREMELY low in the water department so the next few hours consisted of us dragging our boat over rocks and getting in and out of our boat a million times. At every bridge I considered getting out and portaging but just as we thought about that the river seemed to get a little deeper - but not for long! We saw some wildlife - a huge snapping turtle, a little beaver, and some fish. By the end of this section I was ready to get on to another discipline. Phatty was there to greet us along with Linda in the middle of the night as he just got there from a wedding!
Once again we were back on our feet for a "RIVER SCRAMBLE" - WHAT? we just did that but this time we didn't have to take the canoe. So we ran for a couple of kms to the river again and Dog Runner led us the whole way down the river to the final TA. We knew we had a pretty comfortable lead at this point but this didn't slow us down and we picked up the pace to the finish line. So in the end we finished in 15 hours and 59 minutes! and first overall by over 3 1/2 hours. Not bad for a few chicks! I must also add that we had a superbly organized and energetic support crew in Dog Runner's mom, Linda. Every time we got into transition all of our bladders were filled with our new packs full of food for the next section and any clothes we might need draped on our chairs - she is a real pro. I think she even started yelling at us to get going when she felt we were taking too long......an integral part of our success for sure!!!

| Adventure Racing 10:00:00 [4] | ||
| The Angry Seagull Adventure Race with La Femme and Dog Runner. It was a hot day and after a small trail run and a couple of CP's in the bush we ran into the TA in first place with the next two teams hot on our tails. A 25km road/trail ride followed where I almost lost my saddle due to a loose screw but we were quick enough to tighten it before anyone showed up at the next CP. In and out of the TA again we were onto a 25km trail run with some CP's along the way. Due to the fact that we were getting instructions for the next section at each TA and the maps didn't have any grid lines on them I had incorrectly plotted some of the CP's - oops. One of them was at the wrong UTM but the description was accurate so after 20 minutes of searching we located it just as the next two teams ran by. We hid in the bush and when they were gone we continued along the trail. I didn't want to do the work for them and I knew if we ended up seeing them and got in a conversation I would have given up that we had located it after all. So over the rest of the trail run we managed to open up an hour or so on the next team. It was hot though and we were all feeling pretty ill. Over the whole racecourse we didn't eat very much at all.
On to the bikes again we rode country roads and rail trail up north toward the canoe put-in on the Grand River. We pushed pretty hard in this section and as night fell we made it to the next TA to find out that the canoes weren't there yet. So we TA'd as fast as we could and then rested for 21 minutes before the canoes arrived.....and this is where the fun began!

| With Phatty around Caledon. My right hamstring is still bothering me from Extreme. Maybe I should get it worked on, now there is a novel idea! | ||
Tuesday Aug 7 | ||
| Trail Running 1:26:00 [3] | ||
| HVT run with Bash and Rocky. Rocky took us on some new trails (and some not so much trails) to another part of the Humber Valley. Great to get on some new terrain. Amazed at how dry it is.....Fun run with the girls. | ||

| Paddling 3:00:00 [2] | ||
| The final day of the canoe trip out of the Moon River and into Georgian Bay. Good thing we decided to camp where we did since there were so many people down river. Portaged around some pretty cool canyons and then out into the flat rock characteristic of Georgian Bay. A little cloudy today - much to the relief of Hansel and Phatty who got some pretty good sunburns the previous two days. Great trip with great company.....wish I could stay up north all summer. | ||

| Paddling 2:30:00 [1] | ||
| Left camp after jumping in and out of the rapids, following water snakes, watching Hansel check himself for leaches and paddled up river to the Seven Sisters rapids so we could run some of them. The water level was quite low but we all sacrificed the canoes for a little action in the moving water. Nothing too exciting but Dog Runner still hollered like it was
class III. Passed a group of drunken teenage boys who thought it was a good idea to paddle the river drunk, cliff jump along the way, and then leave their empties all along the river......infuriating! Phatty almost dumped their canoe when they tried to T-bone us but they didn't quite go over.....too bad!
Saturday Aug 4 | ||
| Paddling 5:00:00 [2] | ||
| This also included some portaging and a lunch break with swimming and gummi bear eating!!!! On the Moon River with Slice, Phatty, Hansel, The Bakes, Dog Runner and Bro, La Femme, The Bakes and Mans. Beautiful day on the river, especially once we got away from the motor boats and into the secluded lakes. | ||

| Out at Albion Hills by myself because I forgot it was Wednesday and missed the Wednesday morning group. It was hot and sunny but nice in the trails - boy are they dry. I was having a great strong ride when I geared down before going up a hill and I guess my chain skipped to the inside of my cassette just as I cranked on the pedal and heard a big crunch. I flipped my bike over to find that I had twisted one of the pulleys off of its bearing or whatever it is on. There was some shredded plastic (or whatever it's made of) and it certainly wasn't going to guide the chain in that state. So I pulled out my trusty multi-tool and pried it back into place. It worked well enough for me to get home (and to hit a few more single-track loops on the way). Next week I will have to remember to meet the Wednesday group, especially since I have heard rumors of a Cougar sighting in the area (maybe it was just a Bobkitten, and we all know how friendly they can be). | ||
