Sunday Mar 30

Road Riding 2:00:00 [3]
With Phatty around London. The wind was horrendous and I still have not mastered thinking of it as my training partner. I was trying to stay in Phatty's draft but the angle of the wind was not co-operating. I also got blown really close to a car with a gust of wind - not fun. Good to get out though and the hot-tub at the end is a great reward.

Saturday Mar 29

Trail Running 2:30:00 [3]
With Phatty around Fanshawe Lake in London while visiting the future in-laws. Snowy, icey, and muddy so it was a bit of a mental exercise but the legs felt surprisingly good.

Friday Mar 28

Trail Running 1:15:00 [3]
Along the HVT which was super icy and slippery. I thought it would be better in the day but no such luck. Nice and sunny though!

Wednesday Mar 26

Road Riding 45:00 [3]
On the way up to Bent's for my new crown. I was a big girl this time and didn't require any freezing! The new tooth looks fantastic!!!

Today was a much more pleasant ride than yesterday's run. The sun was shining and I was even able to accept the wind as a training partner.
C • Thanks! 2
Road Riding 45:00 [2]
Downhill most of the way home and the wind was at my back so less effort was required. Have to save something for tonight's run just in case Scooby decides to run us all into the ground again.
Trail Running 1:15:00 [2]
Out with Phatty, Rocky, Goose, and Scooby for our Wednesday night run. We hit the HVT tonight and the running was pretty good. A little slippery in places but still a bit soft from the day. The pace was nice and cruisy tonight.

Tuesday Mar 25

Road Running 1:20:00 [3]
Bash had a major computer disaster involving losing all of her files just before our scheduled run so I decided to do a recovery run from yesterday's bike intervals.....the wind and snow had other ideas though. I wanted to cruise on this one and my speed would indicate that however I had to fight a fierce headwind on the way back with snow in my face on the uphills - ENOUGH! I also forgot a hat so had some forehead freezing going on. At least I saw lots of deer and a pileated woodpecker!

Monday Mar 24

Riding indoor (Trainer) 36:00 [2]
15 minute Warm-up, 5 minute cool-down and 2 minute rest intervals between sets.
Riding indoor (Trainer) 32:00 [4]
4 x 4 minute standing intevals.
4 x 4 minute seated intervals. Ouch!

Sunday Mar 23

Road Riding 2:40:00 [3]
On the roads around Orills with Phatty. The sun was out which was deceiving since it was FREEZING! We even had to stop while Phatty took off his right shoe and sock and I warmed his foot up with my hands (now that is true love!).
C • he'll pay for that eventually 3

Saturday Mar 22

Trail Running 1:05:00 [3]
With Phatty on the lake - sun was out and the lake was packed down so the running was good - I was feeling a little sluggish though! We toured down the lake and then out and around Chief's Island and back.

Thursday Mar 20

alpine skiing 50:00 [1]
At Alpine ski resort with the Salomon crew. Bash joined us and we had a great day getting used to sliding down the hill with hardly any effort. Amazing that people do that every weekend but hey to each his own. To top the day we had a race but the goal was to try to match your own time on both runs so although you could race beside someone you weren't really racing them - although of course most people were. Bash and I went down at the same time and in the end it looks like I was able to match times the best for the women (and overall I might add) with both runs being only .06 seconds apart. I will not post my time though since it was horrendous and yes Phatty beat me. I am sure if I was racing against him the outcome would have been different!!!

Fun day and Bash I went home with some jackets and a tennis raquet for me and a badminton raquet for her! Thanks Phatty for inviting us.

Wednesday Mar 19

Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:30:00 [2]
Once again while watching 24! On the edge of my seat I was!!!!
Road Running 1:15:00 [3]
A solid showing for the Wednesday night crew. Eight of us in total. Scooby set the pace and the route and so we ended up going at a pretty good pace for 14 1/2 kms. Nice to be able to stretch and chat after now that the temps aren't so cold.

Tuesday Mar 18

Road Running 25:00 [5]
The hills...ohhh the hills. We stuck one repeat on the Glasgow hill just to punish ourselves for only doing 5 hills last time.
Road Running 32:00 [2]
Warm-up and cool-down.

Sunday Mar 16

Road Riding 2:20:00 [3]
With Phatty on the mountain bikes around Caledon. The roads were dry, the sun was out, and the wind was fierce. Luckily my fiance stayed out front while I cruised in behind. I offered to take a turn but he said he needed the work. I figured I cerainly did too so I would drop back to fight the wind on my own until it wasn't fun anymore and then I would catch up and take a break before repeating the process.

We saw Mr.Biker and Scooby coming back from their ride and we all had a little chat about trying to embrace the wind as a training partner rather than cursing it. I will still stick to telling it to "f*#$ off" in races though!

Great to get out riding!

Saturday Mar 15

Road Running 1:16:00 [3]
Phatty and I hit the roads before heading down to the Banff Mountain Film Festival. I have to say some of the films we saw were so-so. The 11 minute one of this guy riding in B.C was INSANE!!! I have never seen someone ride a bike like that.....crazy balance.....and balls!

Friday Mar 14

Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:45:00 [3]
While watching the second season of 24 - hooked again.

Thursday Mar 13

Road Running 26:00 [5]
Hill intervals into a headwind! Felt like the legs were going to burn up on the first hill - made for a long session!
Road Running 25:00 [2]
Warm up and cool down.

Wednesday Mar 12

Yoga 25:00 [1]
Strength training 15:00 [3]
Push-ups, sit-ups and the like.

Tuesday Mar 11

Classic skiing 1:10:00 [2]
With Bash out in Palgrave after I had some major dental work done at Bent's office. It feels nice to smile now and not be afraid of blinding people with the light that reflects off of my amalgam fillings. He dug out a doozy of a filling and put a nice white temporary in. I think I might leave this one without a "tatooth" since it is nice to see the white in there.

Luckily it was sunny and warm so I didn't have to worry about getting frostbite on the side of my mouth that I couldn't feel. It was just Bash and I so I didn't have to worry about drooling on myself although she did take some pics - yikes! The snow was deep and Bash broke trail while I followed along behind. Good times when we came to a halt in the sunny patches where the snow was really sticky!

Great day to be outside!

Sunday Mar 9

Snowshoeing 56:00 [4]
I was dying in this race! Legs still feeling really heavy. Things went okay until I blew it on the last control (I was looking at two other controls -oops) and thought I was being sneaky by peeling left while Phatty went straight in front of me. Turns out I was dead wrong and had to backtrack while Tiny and Bent ran by me in the other direction - oops!
C • Sneaked by 1
Snowshoeing 1:30:00 [2]
With Phatty around Hilton Falls while Bash and Bent went skate skiing. We used an old HIlton Falls o-map and boy is the navigating at the Giant's Rib Raid going to be tough. Time to really work on pace counting.

Saturday Mar 8

Road Running 50:00 [4]
I'm putting this at a 4 because my legs were feeling really tired and in the sleet and wind it just seemed so much harder. Phatty and I ran around town and then up to the gym to spin. We were hoping to get outside today to ride but NO WAY! It was insane out so the gym it was.
Riding indoor (Trainer) 1:00:00 [3]
Rode between a 2 and a 4 on the spin bikes at the gym. I was sure we had been on them for an hour when I asked Phatty how long. 36 minutes was his reply -uuughghhgh I can't wait to get outside to ride but I want to be sure that no cars are going to slide into me when I do.
Road Running 15:00 [2]
On the way home from the gym.
Strength training 10:00 [3]
That's all I could muster after the boring bike ride!

Friday Mar 7

Road Running 50:00 [3]
With Phatty around B-Town. Neither one of us felt like it, especially him since it took him 2 hours to get home from work, but we forced ourselves to. I felt the legs from yesterdays workout which is good since it means that I didn't take it too easy on myself.

Thursday Mar 6

Road Running 15:00 [4]
400 metre intervals.
Road Running 10:00 [5]
400 metre intervals

Road Running 25:00 [2]
Warm-up and Cool-down.

Wednesday Mar 5

Trail Running 1:00:00 [3]
With Mr.Biker, Phatty, Goose, and Rocky. We slid our way along the HVT trying not to go down too many times on the ice but there wasn't much we could do to stop ourselves on the 82 steps. Phatty went down first and then the rest of us gave in and sat down to slide the rest of the way.

The legs were a little sore from the weekend but not too bad. Both TFL areas were a little tight but that's not bad considering.

Good temps tonight!

Sunday Mar 2

Snowshoeing 4:00:00 [4]
We had our route planned for today and it would give us plenty of time but would leave us too far away from the controls in the north to get them. Once we burned through the first controls that had tracks all the way to them from the day before we changed our minds and decided to head north to pick up some high point controls. This was all going well until we thought that we were world class half marathon runners and would be able to get 12km to the south on road, about 8km to the west and then pick up a bunch of other controls all in a matter of 3 and a half hours - WRONG! The suffering of road running while getting very few points began and by the time we were going for our last 70 pointer the course spit in our face and gave us a snow covered snowmobile trail instead of a paved road - ugghh . We knew we wouldn't make it so we turned around and picked up 45 more points before heading back.

The day was great but we should have stayed in the bush to enjoy the snow. The other Canadian teams all had great days and the skiers had a blast with the new snow and snow covered roads. Milhouse and Dee cleaned up overall while the Bobkittens (Dogrunner and Slice) showed up the men to take second and The Treehuggers held on to fourth despite Bent's ailing leg. Phatty and I shuffled around the roads all day cursing our decisions and vowing to practice route selecting once we got home. If nothing else we got in some good road training and learned some valuable lessons. It's always fun to go on a road trip with great friends and spend some time outdoors in all kinds of conditions.

Oh and a special thanks to our hostess Linda at the Harris Lodging in Sandy Creek (if you are ever looking for lodging its a great place) and the Canadian Crew should be on the website soon!!!

Thanks again everyone for a great weekend! Time to do some serious stretching over the next couple of days!

Road Running 3:45:00 [4]
As part of the snogaine. I will write more later on our poor route choices and then the poorer route choices we made to try to compensate for those poor route choices!

Saturday Mar 1

Snowshoeing 7:40:00 [4]
Phatty and I had some lofty goals for this first day of the NY Snogaine. We planned a pretty long route but knew that we had to get out far quickly and then make our way back throughout the day. Last year we ended up hitting controls on the way out and then got stuck with an 8km road run to finish 33 minutes late.

It didn't take long for us to realize that we were the only ones who chose to go the way we did since we didn't see a soul and had to break our own trail for the first 6 hours of the day through deep snow. It was slow and tiring and before we knew it we had to head back while leaving a bunch of controls at the north end of the course.

That night we realized that the other Canadians had all put in a long day of road running but that it had paid off. They managed to get some of the controls at the top of the course that we couldn't make it to via the bush so we had some catching up to do.
