Orienteering (NA Rogaine) 14:00:00 [3]
Bash and I decided to join up for this year's North American Rogaine in St. Adele, QC. I was determined to break the curse of all of her previous teammates becoming ill and thankfully I did. Although by the end of it I may have reversed the curse...ooops!
Having only one hour to prepare our route after getting the maps Bash promptly pulled out all of her mapping gear and we had chosen a route that was 65km straight line and had options for dropping controls on the fly. In the pouring rain we were off. It has all become a bit of a blur as far as control numbers etc. go but look to Bash's log for all of the stats - I know they will be there. We worked well together with Bash making most of the major route choice decisions and me trying to help out when I could. Some memories from the race that stick out are
- Dr. Wells and C.P. scaring the living daylights out of us at our 3rd control by what seemed like dropping out of the sky behind us (they did it one more time at another control before I asked them to start talking more so we could hear them coming)
- spending a fair bit of the night with Mique and Storm as Mique and Bash's feet got worse and worse (Mique described them as apricotty)
- getting chased by 2 big scary dogs at 3:30am with Mique and Storm as we tried to take a shortcut even though we had been warned against taking this route because of the dogs (I kind of thought they would be asleep).
- shuffling along the railtrail to the finish line to claim first place in the women's division with over 1500 points - yippee!
Had a great race with Bash and learned a lot about rogaining - now if we could just figure out what to do about the feet.
