Event: Gatineau Park Rogaine (2h and 8h)

Orienteering 7:59:00 [4]
I teamed up with Slice for this 8 our rogaine in Gatineau Park. We were both excited to get out into the woods in an area that is sooooo beautiful. We also managed to find a couple of leopard print tank tops to wear on top of our packs to go with the Bobkitten name. The colours were amazing and the temperature was perfect.

With only half an hour to plan our route on two maps (one 1:10 000 and one 1:25000) I tried to use what Bash taught me with the pins and string to plan our route. Just as we thought we might have something set we heard the whistle go to say that our half hour was up. Uh oh - we didn't even have a chance to see if our route made sense. Oh well it's the same for everyone. Our plan was to nab some on the 1:10 000 on our way out on to the other map and leave some just in case we got back early - HA! It took us a while to get in to a groove and it was really apparent that we have to work on pace counting. We had a little trouble here and there with some of the controls and there wasn't any vegetation detail on the map so pace counting would have really helped. We didn't have to abandon a control until the very end when we just didn't have time to look around so all in all it went well. Of course our route could have been a little better but we worked well together with Slice usually carrying the bearing in to the control to punch and I tried to take us out to the next attack point.

We ran into DogRunner and Mr. Mo who looked strong and confident and Hansel and Dr. Wells who were still moving despite a broken toe. The end of the race had us running for the finish as we tried to nab controls here and there on the way back. The most difficulty we had was with a 60-something pointer where we just couldn't find the trails we were looking for. It cost us time but we eventually found it and then hoofed it on the road back. With one 40 pointer in a field on the way to the finish line I lead us into the wrond re-entrant and just when I thought we were going to have to abandon our second control Slice spotted it in a re-entrant on our way by. She then proceeded to coax me in to the finish line just in the nick of time......

Great day, great course, and of course a great Bobkitten Partner.....now we just have to work on our pace counting and watch out.

We ended up 1st females and fourth overall - better than we expected. We did run A LOT though and noticed that teams that ended up not too far behind us in the standings didn't run at all - ouch! Better route choice maybe next time and pace counting for sure!

Yoga 30:00 [1]
At home without a video. I must say I was pretty happy with doing my own practice. I thought I would have to look at my yoga journal mag to guide me but I guess I know enough to do it on my own. I tried to incorporate poses that I find difficult too.

Trail Running 1:00:00 [3]
Out with Goose on the HVT for a night run. Luckily he was in front since we ran into what appeared to be a 200lb beaver....yikes. Great temp. for a run - shorts and short sleeve. I guess that is not necessarily a good thing though...

Trail Running 1:02:00 [3]
Out with Bash and Bulletdog on the HVT. It was fun to watch Bash getting yanked along for the first part of the run but once off the leash Bulletdog would just run ahead and then casually look over her shoulder to see if we were still coming. I tried out the new Salomon XT Wings today and I have to say I like them. They are light and stable and have slightly more cushioning than the XA Pros. Plus they are a cool flashy green colour! No rolling of the ankles in those babies...

Legs felt a little sluggish today...maybe due to the cold that I have thanks to everyone bringing it into the clinic! Hopefully it's gone by the weekend for the Rogaine.

Mountain Biking 1:20:00 [4]
To see Bent in Palgrave so he could drill some of the metal out of my mouth. Was running short on time so I had to pick up the pace. I arrived with mud on my face from the wet roads but I figure this is one office that will appreciate that.....especially since I arrived human-powered.
