Trekking 5:45:00 [4]

Great day out for the first of two at the Snowgaine in NY. La Femme and I teamed up to take on last year's winners in the female category and 2nd overall Slice and DogRunner. I knew that we would be able to clear the course and didn't think the snow was going to be too deep so La Femme and I set out without snowshoes or skis. We picked a pretty good route and knew from the sign-in sheets that MBR was in front of us. The nice thing was that they were on foot too and were making trudging throught the deep snow a lot easier than it would have been. I have to admit that we did change our route choice twice once we saw where they were going next since they had obviously seen something on the map that I hadn't earlier. In the end La Femme and I felt like we were going pretty slow at times and the post holing was starting to wear us down. We worked pretty hard and La Femme had some brilliant nav moments to help us get to the finish line 3rd on the day behind MBR and EMS. We were pleasantly surprised to see we had done so well but since the time didn't matter for the second day we really didn't have to push so hard. Oh well.

Around B-town in the warmer temps. My legs felt like lead after yesterdays leg workout and then sprint ride! Hopefully they feel better by the weekend.

Trekking 2:00:00 [1]

A much more reasonable day out! The Ottawa crew arrived the day before and thank god since they brought delicious food (our stove was not working properly) - anyone know about the best kind of gas to use in those temps....we had butane cannisters but I have the Primus Himalaya Omnifuel so it can use white gas too.

My thermarest deflated in the night so I was chilly despite having so many layers on (I know the theory about wearing less but I just couldn't bring myself to take anything off) I didn't sleep very well.

After we played around on the ice with the dogs (two came from Otts) we hiked over to Moulton Gorge and were even able to sit in the sun by a beaver dam for a while and have some snacks. This day made the trip worth it but I think I have learned where my winter limit is and all I have to say is those of you (Bash, Bent, Slice, and PhattyJr) that are heading up to NWT for the Rock and Ice - YOUR GUYS ARE CRAZY!!! I will be sending all of my warm vibes to you........
