Classic skiing 1:30:00 [3]

Well I managed to get out on my classic skis today in the morning. We headed up to Plateau des Glieres and it was gorgeous. Not sunny but the temperature was quite reasonable. I had the right grip wax on but my glide was not so great. Better than the reverse though. I started to slip in the hills near the end as my technique got sloppy but other than that it was great. Lots of people out today but most were skating so I had no issues with traffic. My left ankle causes me some problems with weighting my left ski so that gets a bit annoying but it was still so great to be out.

Trail Running 1:00:00 [3]

First time up the Veyrier since we have been back. What a treat. Trails were in great shape but I couldn't help thinking about the guy that fell up there a few weeks ago. I stopped to take a peak at a few cliffs areas and it has reminded me to be sure of my footing. It's a long way down in some places.

Calves were tight and legs were sore going down but that's what I get for slacking for so long. I have to get some races on the calendar to get me motivated. There are some very cool ones so it shouldn't be too hard to choose.

Skate skiing 1:30:00 [3]

Today I got out with Phatty since Marion and Seb said they would have the kids in the morning and would go when we got back. What a beautiful day. Sunny and warm and we took trails up onto the ridge that gave us a great view over Lac Leman and the Alps beyond. Breathtaking. I had actually been skiing on Phatty's skis so when we discovered this and I took mine back I was shocked at how poorly they were gliding. Granted he had just scraped the wax off them the day before without a table so I think he wasn't able to do the best job. Kindly he let me ski on his skis for the rest of the day. His Phat Ass would still pass me on the downhills though.

This will be a great place to come back to in the summer too so we can do some riding.

Unfortunately when we got home we saw a helicopter hovering half way down the Veyrier with a spotlight on the side of the mountain. On December 23rd a 23 year old man went running at night and didn't come home. It's been three weeks and they just found him on Saturday. He must have fallen off of a cliff just behind our house. We know this trail very well and I bet I know exactly where it happened. The thing is it is easy to get complacent about the danger when you are so used to running there. I don't know how it took them 3 weeks to find him since they knew he went running there and if you asked me I would have pointed out three specific places to start looking first. Very sad indeed and our neighbour told us it was his family that found him. They were probably the only ones left searching.

This is also the same trail that Phatty ran on all of those dark, rainy nights in November while training for Costa Rica. It will definitely make me pay more attention when I am up there.
