Road Running 2:24:00 [4] +1100m
If I am going to run on pavement and in the city this is how I want to do it. The Lyon Urban Trail race was awesome. Phatty and I both had the chance to do it since Nana was in town so we got up early and drove to Lyon. The race was great. Sooooooooo many stairs. It was just literally up, up, up, run along for a little bit and then down again. Varied surfaces, old churches, great views, an ancient amphitheatre and wonderful support from the spectators. I just moved along with the crowd for the first while and of course because I don't wear a watch I had no idea how long we had been going or how far. I was expecting to see a 10km or more marker when all of a sudden I saw an 8km marker. Oh no. My legs were already feeling the climbs and descents so I think I slowed down just a bit. I managed to do some back and forth with about 3 other guys and just tried to pick off the women I could see in front of me. The best part about this race is that the only flat section was about 1.5km long and it was through a tunnel that had images playing on the walls of various athletics. It was very cool. A kid yelled out 2km to go so I couldn't figure out why everyone was starting to sprint. Then my running buddy told me it was 200m. He gave me the "let's go" look so we sprinted into the finish which is through the Mairie (city hall) in the main square. Almost bailed on the stairs but held on. Great day and for being so out of shape I am happy with how it went. I felt pretty good throughout and my legs aren't sore today so if I get my *ss doing more activity then I should be a little faster next time.
