Yoga 45:00 [1]

After a rainy day of indoor playgrounds and napping the kids went to bed and I decided to do something about my tight (and not in the good way) body. Abdominal and outer hip class. Yowzaa my hips are tight. Pigeon was like a torture session. Phatty is away for two weeks so I am going to see if the kids will watch me do Insanity tomorrow and then we will see how far Weeanimal will ride her bike while I run with BigE.

Road Running 1:00:00 [3]

Along the lake with the big boy after L-Dawg and Kaiserbun (Lawrence Foster and Kai) left. We had a great couple of days with them as they are visiting Lawrence's sister in Switzerland and took the time to come down for a few days. Weeanimal was introduced to the world of Minesweeper and Halo, both of which I hope she quickly forgets. After an attempt at a sleepover last night they finally had to separate as each was blaming the other for keeping them awake. Was great fun showing them around Annecy.

Trail Running 3:20:00 [5] 25.0 km (8:00 / km) +1100m 6:33 / km

Ugh this one hurt. Not surprising with the amount of running I have been doing but ouch. We pulled out our trusty magazine with all of the trail races listed and picked one about 3 hours from here in the Haute Loire region. We stayed at a really nice gite owned by two English people and Mari was thrilled to pick flowers for and draw pictures for them.

The race was in a tiny village called Chaspinhac and it's the second year for this race. I glanced quickly at the map but really had no idea where I was on the race course unless I asked someone what kilometre we were at and I only did that once. I really didn't want to know. We started off with a big descent into a valley where we ran along a river but we were on a flat dirt road and it was killing me in the heat with a 3pm start. Finally we started to climb and it was straight up. We worked our way along a ridge with great views and then along what seemed like more of a goat track. The running was very technical with lots of loose rock and steep climbing/scrambling.

I did remember from the race map though that there was a nasty steep climb right near the end and it just about killed me. I had been running with a group up to 15km and there was a woman in it. I knew we were the 4th and 5th women so I just tried to stay with that group. At about 17km they stopped for water and I kept going. Going up the steep climb I could hear them behind me and I just figured if I could get to the top then the rest was downhill and I should be able to hold her off. Luckily I was able to and could still run the last 100m with Weeanimal who also did a race that day and won (along with every other kid in it:)

I carried my poles for this but decided not to use them just to see the difference. It is HUGE! My back and hamstrings were killing me from doing the lean over hands on knees climbing.

Seriously dreading the Maxi Race!
