Road Riding 2:00:00 [3]

Up the Semnoz to meet the a group for dinner. Was nice to have
Some people cheer me to the top :). First I had to battle the crowds along the waterfront to get there. I'm glad I rented a bike for the etape. I'm just not going to get there strength wise in one week.

Road Riding 1:15:00 [3]

Was supposed to climb the Semnoz to meet a group for dinner at the end of the day but that got rescheduled until tomorrow so I did a Tour de Veyrier. Col de Bluffy, Dingy, Naves-Parmelan and the down to the Fier river and back home. Beautiful day.

We had a great day swimming at the Menthon Plage. Wee is making big progress with her swimming so she was in the water for about 3 1/2 hours and made a nice friend from Ireland.

Road Riding 2:00:00 [3]

Leschaux via St. Eustache in the morning. Sooooo nice to have cooler temps and no sun shining for a bit of a break. I think today and tomorrow are going to be manageable and then it's back into the oven.

Road Riding 5:30:00 [4] 87.0 km (3:48 / km) +2400m 3:20 / km

Ugh this was a tough one. I wanted to get going at 6am for two reasons 1. the heat and 2. the traffic. Well, the heat has been killing us here and the kids are sleeping horrible which means that I am also sleeping horribly. So we didn't get up until 7 and I didn't get going until after 9 - shit.

I started with the Semnoz climb and unfortunately there seemed to be a convention of morons up there somewhere. I passed a parking lot full of guys polishing their white VW golfs (with the cars running) just ready to speed up the Semnoz. Great. About 50 of them passed, most too closely, the entire ride up and I even got honked at once for not being right on the edge of the road so he could pass me while a car was oncoming. I haven't perfected cursing in french so I gave him my best scowl. I also started the climb by passing a cyclist who had been hit by a motorcycle and was being loaded on a spinal board into an ambulance. I can would bet a million bucks he was swinging wide on the corner to then cut it tight. I see it all the time, they are always in my lane.

Thankfully they were all coming back down the same way so I continued on and descended to Leschaux while dozens of bikers ascended from that direction. Maybe they knew about the jerks going up the other side.

I made my way over to Duingt where I scooted into town for a sandwich before heading toward the Col de la Forclaz climb from the back side. I have only done this climb once and it was hell but I was feeling okay so up I went. And then I didn't feel okay. It's a 9km climb mostly at 9/10/and 11% with some 12 and 13 in there somewhere. No shade higher up and man was I suffering. I was out of water and the road started swimming in front of my eyes. Sadly I fell here while trying to get going again after a short break to try to bring my HR down. I couldn't unclip and went down. I should have stayed there!

I was hoping for a coke in Montmin which is only 2km from the top but no dice. I slowly made it up with some encouraging words of riders coming down and stumbled into the first souvenir shop for a cold coke. Heaven. The rest of the ride was uneventful and I had Wee hose me down when I got back.
