JK Relay - Mens Short 1st leg - Pippingford Park

Nice runnable forest with middle section on open heath. Short and fast race, legs not great beforehand but actually felt OK for a post-long relay. Had long early gaffle so always had people ahead, no mistakes - legs were limiting factor Around 10th at spectator then kept head on longer leg where others made errors. Came back 5th with 3rd in sight. LT & RB had good runs and brought us home in 2nd.

Orienteering race (Holmbush & St Leonards) 2:05:58 [3] *** 17.7 km (7:07 / km) +390m 6:25 / km

JK Long - M21E WRE - Holmbush & St Leonards

Race on 2 areas; Holmbush had a technical slope but quite a lot of undergrowth in the rest of the forest. St Leonards more runnable with rhodos. Chest feeling sore after middle race fall but think ribs just bruised. Felt pretty good to 90mins but then got tired and brain started to go. Didn't fully bonk but last 30mins were tough, survival mode from there to the usual just-over-2hrs result. Some early mistakes - first race on a 1:15k map in a couple of years, then a few RCs (c9,10,11) not ideal, caught in brambles. Caught by BenS 3min man at road crossing which helped push through the first half of St Leonards, but lost him with mistakes at c23&24. Also felt a bit of ITB knee pain on downhills in last 45mins.

JK Middle - M21E WRE - Heyshott & Ambersham Common

Typical SE fast runnable forest with some open sections. Still not sure whether chest/lungs had fully recovered from cold. Pretty much from the start felt flat, couldn't get going or find an extra gear. Legs felt fine but just couldn't push. Shame, as technically a very good race, v small hesitation at c5, maybe slightly better RCs for c6 and c10 but all good up to c18. Just after I tripped and landed chest onto tree stump. Winded and bit shaken zigzagged to c19. Painful but ran it off and ok to finish. Don't think the early start (after no results in 2016) helped either, the forest/bracken tracked up

Fitting in at least one faster session before the weekend. With Ambersham map. Felt pretty good actually. Still some sort of tightness in my chest but its not a problem running.
