ARDF race 2:01:13 [5] 7.28 km (16:39 / km) +292m 13:52 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

USA ARDF Championships at Mt Laguna, CA. Day 2, competition is using 80m radios. I had mananged to hit a small tree during the sprints on Friday, and broke the mounting for the ferrite antenna on my 80m radio. One of the main loop wires became 'intermittent' but I managed to tape it into something almost usable. It worked pretty well except for the 'intermittent' thing messing with distance.
I was pretty positive today and determined to make better choices. I head all 5 running down the road (imagine that) and knew that I would get 1 first, and it was pretty easy. I went off the major road too early chasing after #3 but got it anyways, just slower. Went off after #4 and did ok but it was rough, didnt take many trails. After #4 I knew #5 was over the ridge and going around, either the north or the south was a long way to go, I went over the top. Wow. I was having muscle spams and cramps where I was to wait a full minute before I could move again. Kept pretty much straight for #5 (thanks 80m) and then into the finish.
Much happier and positive today, even though I was absolutely physically spent.
What a fantastic weekend!

ARDF race 2:25:59 [4] 10.28 km (14:12 / km) +288m 12:27 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

USA ARDF Championships at Mt Laguna, CA. The first real race is on 2m. This race really proved to me how much your mental attitude can affect your run. Yes I made some crappy choices, but when you get real negative you are sunk.
I started down the road to get my initial bearings, and didnt hear #1 - bad. 2 came on but I didnt have to find it. 3 was about east, and 4 was less than 90 also - thought I should get it first. 5 seemed further away in the direction of the finish. In my haste I decided to cross the marsh and not stay on the road - oops. Went back and forth about which to get first, ended up getting 3 then 4, headed back up the trail (the wrong way) thinking that I would start hearing #1 as I went. Nope. Got all the way to the main road, way over tired and cant hear #1. Screw it, I walk to the finish on the road.
I could have gotten #5 on the way in but I was just too negative. Since we built the transmitters, I wasnt considering that #1 wasnt on, or didnt have the batteries secured - I was convinced that it was me or my equipment.
Otherwise, beautiful area, very tough and long.
