running warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: x-talon 190

orienteering race 1:13:00 [5] 10.0 km (7:18 / km)
shoes: x-talon 190

really tough mass start race. went out at the start between two minds on what route choice to take to the first, but decided going around would save my legs for the coming climb. had a thin lead as the peloton stretched out along the fireroad, and snatched a few seconds cutting corners on the tracks, then made a small mistake and jarred my good ankle a little on the way into #1, but it felt fine. dogleg out of #1 back to #2 and i could see a Phillips, Nankervis and a Blatchford (and maybe a Lawford), and headed back round to number 3. took a gel and worked it up to #4 missing by 20sec or so (it was in a bush? haha) and heard a few noises behind me but didnt see anyone. nailed the contouring exercise to #5 and ran just under the summit then down to the Skoda Mountain Control where i was definitely hallucinating because i thought i could hear jules commentating from the arena. was over careful down into the butterflies, missing by a bit then worked really hard to handle the scale after so much sprinting the day before. saw a Nankervis, and a Neve doing their respective butterflies so i thought there must be a Blatchford, a Phillips and some Cockies somewhere in there too so kept the pace down to the Skoda spectator where i was certainly rooted. the last loop did not go well, fatigue hitting me hard and struggled to read the map and compass. epic race.

awesome weekend of racing, heaps of juniors, 3 races with awesome ideas, great remapping and spectating/commentating.

across the day
9 AM

orienteering race 26:00 [5] 4.9 km (5:18 / km)
shoes: x-talon 190

Middle distance at bruce ridge.
started out a little tentatively to the first but had good pace to the second although probably taking the wrong singletrack option, then stayed smooth through the next four or so controls until i saw eon and got a bit distracted. got a bit lucky i wasnt off my bearing too much then under the GDE and around the stadium fast, losing maybe 20sec in the thick bush there. onto the sprint map and went hard, straight on all controls but missed out on a couple more fast routes. pretty tired by the end.

orienteering race 9:30 [5] 2.1 km (4:31 / km)
shoes: addidas adizero

time just a guess. had a good run but was definitely feeling the middle. no mistakes and probably all the right route choices. caught up to a group of runners just before the finish.

orienteering race 12:32 [5] 2.7 km (4:39 / km)
shoes: addidas adizero

Leg 2. after a cracker second leg by bun i didnt have much to do but pin the A line, but after seeing how much further this leg was i thought there might be fellas running shorter than me so i turned on the NOS again. one 15sec mistake at 3 but once again was in control.
props to Oscar McFaulty in senior mens!
