Had a car so drove down to the track after dropping Kye at the airport. Am motivated by Morten saying that the prize for the mara is $5000 tala. I don't know if that is right and what that will mean for the half or if there is even a separate girls race but it has the potential to create a massive PB in prize money for me.

Kye and I rode our bikes down to the aths track, great to have company so I do this! I did 3 x 300m, 3 x 600m, 3 x 300m. The track was wet, and it is always wet so there is slime growing on it, and there was also a downpour while we were these so it was more like ice skating than running.

3 x 1k, 200m recovery. 2 x 200m (supposed to be 3 x 300m, with short recovery). I felt rubbish today, so slow and such hard work. Contemplated giving up after first 1k but I had already made it to the track and had to get a taxi to work so stayed to try to make it worth the taxi fare.

5 minutes of free style swimming in our pool and core exercises for the rest. Tantrum day, I've got a bad, infected cut on my leg and it's making me really irritable. Annoyingly I knew exercise would make me feel better but I was too irritated to do it.

Usual block - up to USP pole and then around the morman temple. Wanted to do ints but never really got around to it so just tried to run hard the whole way which really only last the first 10minutes before I started suffering. Walked one minute between 15 and 16 and then stumbled home at the end. So hot and late enough for the dogs to be stirring. A bit faster than my slow plod at least.

Cam's intervals - 6am start so up a 5.30 which really messed with my sleep and I didn't really get any. We didn't start til 6.30 so I could have stayed in bed a bit longer. I did 3 x 400m, 100rec, 3 x 800m, 200rec, 3 x 400m, 100m rec. I walked a few recoveries and was feeling very slow and tired. Hot by the end of the session.

Wednesday half mara training group - except Erica couldn't make it so I ran with Cam and Paul. We went much faster than usual which was good.

Relay with Ben and Bronwyn (Toby and Imogene Scott's mum). Classic woodhill today and I could see a long way which really made a difference. Felt like I could orienteer at my maximum running pace. Slight wobble on 7 but otherwise pretty clean, was on my own.

Woodhill but a bit different, mainly just one slope with hundred and hundred of little gullies. Was trying to be really careful at the start but really lost it a 3, had to go out to a track because I really had no idea. Jenny and Clair caught me here so ran with them for a while but then I started to get into it in the second half and flowed much better so ran away from them. Another really fun day - went in up to my knees at Muriwai beach and had a delicious NZ mixed berry yogurt ice cream.

Awesome course and great terrain. Clearly I am not fit and there was so much up and down over sand dunes which became exhausting and hurt my not used to it calves a lot. Really fun!

We were very very late for the quarantine but noone cared. Did a small warm up on a model map, it was the perfect way to get my mind on orienteering. Made quite a few mistakes, partly because the map had double levels and I was not very good at working this out so was always looking for the controls on ground level. I won a split which is crazy.

Training with Erica, disappointed when I measured how far we went on google maps. A bit hilly but otherwise we are really just plodding. The last 5k felt hard today and next time I really need to take some water with me. We were both very quite today. Also late for work so might have to start a bit early (or on time...)
