This was fun. On gravel roads from Watermark, Nth our Karri Hill Rd, Brook Rd, Cosmo Rd, Cedarman, Sth on Wheatley Coast Road to Orchid Rd, then straightish into River Rd and down to the River Road Bridge (11.1km). 1.4km on the Bibulmun track to Warren Campsite, then the next 17km on the track to the Gloucester Tree, followed by 3km on the road to meet the family in Pemberton for breakfast.
Possibly a good thing yesterday didn't happen, as this many have been a bit more than I could handle if I wasn't feeling fresh. A rough (with headphone cable) measure the night before had me guessing that this was about 29km, with the possibility of a couple of cut-offs to save a few km near the end if I wasn't going too well. The extra distance and the slowing effect of the hills and twists and turns of the Bib track put me well over the 2:20 to 2:30 that I had in mind when looking at options, but I still felt strong when I went past my cut-off point (and I misjudged the distance to the end) and the kids had a playground to play in while they waited anyway.
Pity Mrs Fletch forgot to bring my change of clothes. Glad there was outdoor seating at the cafe.
2nd longest training run ever...
Warren Hut to Gloucester tree is pretty much spot on 17km on the Bib track for anyone who is interested (but not interested enough to pay for a Bib track map that would tell you)
Hardly got any sun as the bush/canopy cover was pretty thick. Saw one camper at River Rd Bridge, 1 random empty 4wd, one kangaroo, lots of emus, 1 tiger snake (conveniently just after I had been fishing around in my pack for a bar rather than looking where I was going) and one walker (who looked like they left the tree the previous night, walked about far enough that they thought nobody would stumble across them, then pitched their tent about 2m off the side of the track in the middle of the National Park). Ah the serenity. My 1.5L of water/cordial just lasted and I didn't need my emergency second bar (or phone or compression bandage)
