Paddling (River) 1:14:00 [2] 10 km (7:24 / km)
(injured) shoes: Ski, Mako 6
A perfect day for a paddle on the ocean but with Dalto driving from Gosnells we met at UWA and paddled on the river - 40mins into the strong easterly up to Coode St opposite the city, and back 10mins faster. Was feeling prety ordinary, mild headache, sore shoulder, sore abs but it was mmuch better on the way back. Had yet another daytime sleep afterwards.

Helped Dad start his car later in the day, and then hetook it for a drive to charge the battery - every time he pulled away from the lights my head would flop back onto the chair as my SCMs couldn't hold my head up! He said afterwards that he felt like he was driving his mongol son around!
MTB (Langford Park) 1:04:00 [2] 24 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Bike, Merida
Had arranged earlier in the week to go riding with Dalto and Je n so honoured the committment and was actually unimpacted by yesterday's crash, just more incompetent and petrified than usual and a little giddy. Jen was on a mission and dropped us both after complaining she was tired, sick and coughing up green phlegm. We did the new 12hr lap route which was good for its variety after riding the old one for 12 months. Was more leg tired than I had any physical right to be, I put it down to yesterday's incident.

Road Bike 2:36:00 [3] 72 km (2:10 / km)
shoes: Bike, Kestrel
A nice ride for the first 2/3. Rode alone along river from North Lake Rd to Canning Bridge, jumped on the back of a group here which got me going a bit quicker, round Mt Henry, left group, Narrows, Causeway (saw dolphins and some swan families near Wesley boatshed opposite the city), Burswood, East Perth, under causeway and then at the Plain St cyclepath junction with the river cyclepath my ride (and memory) came to an abrupt violent halt. I can remember lying on the grass near the river edge with people standing around and this middle-aged Swiss couple were helping me out while I was a bit unsteady on my feet. The hubby was a pretty solid guy and it turned out he had come across from Plain St and turned left onto the cyclepath towards the causeway, where I was coming from. Trouble was he turned left onto the right side of the path, doing the European thing. Given where my bike and I were/are sore I think I must have hit right shoulders and right brakehoods with him before knocking myself out when I hit the ground. Right ring finger is now purple and swollen, probably squashed on his bike, and the front of my neck is sore - hurts to yawn!! So I think I landed on my back on the grass and sand. Also when I got back to my folks place my shirt pockets had sand and shells in them. I notice th'smorning that my abs are also a bit sore so that pretty much confirms it, every muscle that worked suddenly eccentrically is sore.

It's weird, a day later and my last memory is seeing them on the road up ahead crossing over to the cyclepath but I can't remember anything after that. He apologised and said he didn't see me, gave me $100 for my helmet and was straightening my derailleur. I am surprised I have got off so lightly really, I wasn't going fast, about 27kph but there's 5mins of my life or thereabouts gone. I should splice that bit with the 20mins or so from Bunbury in 95 or was it 96? I can't remember losing my shoe or phone or stuff but they were all sandy and grassy and were in different pockets to when I started the ride when I got home.

I had a splitting headache and rode home slowly around the cyclepath via Mosman Park and Cottesloe, was too edgy to ride on the roads. Had 4 hours sleep in the arvo, and then 10hours last night. Nothing like head injury to make you sleep well.

Swimming (Squad) 1:25:00 [3] 3.9 km (21:48 / km)
Got in a bit early today and did a few hundred and found I was feeling pretty good. And then for once a timetrial coincided with a feel good day and so I posted a solid time for 400m of 5:42. The quickest I've swum in a few years and more than reflective of the 2ish swims a week I've sort of been doing! We did some more 200s h/ez and then after squad was over I pulled out the big paddles and did some stroke work as I can feel my weenie left arm always taking the path of lesser resistance when the going gets tough. Nice sunny and warm start to the day.

Thursday Nov 8

Weird Stuff (Spin Bike) 48:00 [3] 19 km (2:32 / km)
Jen and I tried out the new spin bikes at work, dragged a couple out to the shade of the gum trees near the outdoor pools and did a few pyramids, some sprints and some single leg work. The bikes are magnetic resistant and almost completely silent - the readout gives cadence, heart rate and watts and gives awesome feedback. I can see myself spending some time on these bikes every now and then.

Wednesday Nov 7

Swimming (Squad) 1:00:00 [2]
Needed to swim as not training negatively affects my ability to sleep, and my quads are still too sore to use preperly! I can't even put my phone in my pocket as the pressure on my quad hurts - damn DOMS! Pretty sure it's from the rock running for 40mins and then the downhill stuff. Can't even sleep on my front yet as the bed hurts them. Pool was nice, virtually empty, I guess because of the horse race yesterday and people over-indulging. Set included a 1km timetrial which I wasn't too enthused about, just cruised it, 15.43.
