Sunday Dec 2 | ||
| Paddling race (Bay to Beach) 1:15:00 [4] 14 km (5:21 / km) | ||
| shoes: Ski, Mako 6 | ||
| First proper paddle race I've done on this ski and I am definitely lacking in the strength department - very slow off the mark compared to the paddler-types and with no idea of what intensity to maintain in a ski race. Cardiovascularly no trouble at all, was only challenged when wake-riding for sections down the river after pleasure craft had passed.
Only people I overtook were while I was on a wave, didn't actually paddle pass anyone under my own steam, just through being able to read the wave a bit better than most it seemed. Cunning and guile rather than grunt. Odd given my muscular V-shaped massive paddling torso and shoulders.
Saturday Dec 1 | ||
| MTB (Langford park) 1:40:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Bike, Merida | ||
| One lap of the 12-hr course in teh daylight followed by a lap after dark with lights and headlamp. Was pretty good fun - I liked the track as it has been well-ridden and not so rocky and loose as it normally is. | ||
Friday Nov 30 | ||
| Weird Stuff (PT) 30:00 [4] | ||
| Final session with new PT staff. She'd upped the intensity a bit today, I had to work. Much better. | ||
| Core Stability/Stretching (Beach session) 25:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Barefoot | ||
| I arrived bang on time, no one waiting, wandered over to look at the windswept (and empty) beach then sat in the car for 10mins, no-one showed so I drove off. To see Wil sitting in his car a bit further up. Sprung! Normally he rocks-up just after the warm-up saying "I got dressed in the car then rushed down" really, he just waits till warm up is over. Very lacklustre session, but once again glad I did it rather than nothing. | ||
| Running (Beach session) 20:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Barefoot | ||

Thursday Nov 29 | ||
| Road Bike (Commute) 1:04:00 [2] 30.2 km (2:07 / km) | ||
| shoes: Bike, Kestrel | ||
| Commute with the sea-breeze behind from Melville with Jen. Hungry. | ||
| Road Bike (Commute) 1:19:00 [1] 29.95 km (2:38 / km) | ||
| shoes: Bike, Kestrel | ||
| Was terribly tired and didn't want to ride home, even to the point of hanging around work longer to delay the inevitable. Was 60m shorter on the way home but took 15mins longer. Funny to be overtaken by fat people on mountain bikes with panniers. One guy had long boardies on, thongs and really rusty rims and bike. I had a stop and stretch (rest) at the narrows. | ||
Wednesday Nov 28 | ||
| Running long 1:36:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Brooks Beast | ||
| 5 of us tonight. Jogged around for a bit then headed to City Beach where there was an orienteering event. Ricky showed us where it was and we bought a couple of maps and ran the 6km long course then ran back to the pool. Took the dog for a 10min run on the beach afterwards, then a quick bodysurf. | ||
| Weird Stuff (PT) 35:00 [2] | ||
| Putting a new PT through her paces. Or was it vice-versa. They never really have any idea how hard to make an actual Fit person work. | ||
Tuesday Nov 27 | ||
| Running hills (Reabold West) 1:14:00 [3] 12 km (6:10 / km) | ||
| shoes: Brooks Beast | ||
| 3 sets of 4 reps up Reabold with the first 3 steady and the 4th a bit faster. 15mins of warm-up/cool down.
2:20, 2.03, 2.02, 1.55 2.05, 2.06, 2.04, 1.59 2.05, 2.05, 2.09, 1.43 Felt awful all day, didn't want to run and just hoped no-one would turn up and that I could sleep instead. Alas, 4 regulars turned up and I had to pretend to be motivated and interested and coach-like. Fortunately I've had lots of practice pretending to be athletic. Felt better afterwards, and managed to get to a servo to buy chocolate and 2L of Mountain Dew to keep me functioning for the evening.
Monday Nov 26 | ||
| Paddling (River) 1:30:00 [3] | ||
| shoes: Ski, Mako 6 | ||
| Couldn't wake up for swimming but still went paddling, magic morning but the forecast of 2m seas and 2m swell meant we (Jen and I) headed for the river paddling down from Meads towards Freo and back. Were several boats full of schoolies heading down river (for Rotto?) and we got some good long hardefforts on the wake. Jen is paddling much better now on the fibreglass ski, will get her new ski next week (XT) so I'll have to start doing some proper training to stay ahead of her soon I suspect!
Had a dolphin come towards us, go under and then carry on in a very disinterested manner near The Coombe.
| Road Bike (Commute) 25:00 [3] 11 km (2:16 / km) | ||
| shoes: Bike, Kestrel | ||
| Just the short way, was in a rush. Got run off the road by a Sealanes truck on Green St, he was turning right out of a side street onto my side of the 4 lane road and decided to swing into the left lane so close his tyres went onto the concrete of the gutter. Fortunately anticipating a stupid manoeuvre I'd breaked and slowed but still had to go pathwards as he really did it badly. Moron. | ||
| Road Bike (Commute) 40:17 [3] 19 km (2:07 / km) | ||
| shoes: Bike, Kestrel | ||
| Very weak SWesterly tonight, faded to nothing by the time I got home. It's nice riding home late on nice nights like this - very little traffic and good fun. Think I must be getting older, strained my right quad in the tri on the weekend, must've been on one of the hills on the bike. Never ever hurt a quad before, other than DOMS. | ||
