Bike 6:00:00 [3] 30.0 km (5.0 kph) +1500m

Repeat of the RMR to Cartier traverse. Courtney wanted to do this so only she can be blamed for any type 2 fun;) Russ, Atsuko and Brett also joined us. To shorten the day we got a ride to the top of the ski hill. Due to the drive up decided to start right at the top and traverse south bowl. This added some more alpine sections but also added more off trail hike-a-bike. Worth doing if you are driving up - if riding up I'd stick with the cat road. Great weather and a light breeze in the alpine helped us from overheating. Flies were out but I thought they didn't annoy me as much as last year. Some parts of the ride seemed easier than last year - others harder. Brought some running shoes for the rocky hike up to the ridge and that was a lot easier this year. The ride down was fun - again went on forever and my upper body was starting to feel it. Valley bottom was hot and that was the only time that I felt crappy. Such a good traverse - a shame there isn't a trail as even a few specific short sections would speed up the ride quite a bit.

A few planning notes - went a bit high on the traverse in the south basin after the lakes. Last year's route was a bit better.

Eva Lake out and back with Courtney. Had the dog on leash which was actually quite tricky - especially on the technical descents. Felt quite tired on the way back - tired from the race yesterday and bonking a bit. Very nice weather - nice in cool in the morning. Has been too warm in the afternoons lately...

RMR toonie race. Small turnout but was riding with Isaac the whole race. Also caught up to Brendan for a bit when he burped some air. No warm up again but felt pretty good. The big easy climb sucked and lost some ground there but made up a bit on the flatter bits. Almost caught Isaac at the end finishing 5 seconds behind him. Looks like similar times to a couple years ago.

RMR trails again setting up some signs for the race. Not too sore after yesterday - just calves a bit tight and right knee soreness (which is better already).

Off the couch 21km Dirty Feet race. Courtney really wanted to do it so I decided to sign up too. With very few runs over 10km I didn't have any high expectations - more like an excuse to do a long training run. Started at what felt like a pretty easy pace and very quickly had about 20-30 people pass me. Looked at my watch and saw that I still did a 4:20 first km. The fast guys went out in 3:15 supposedly. Kept things dialled back but even so at around 8-9km could feel that legs were getting tired. Should have signed up for the 10km;) Anyway kept plugging along - was leapfrogging a few people - I was generally stronger on the climbs and slower on the flats. Couldn't pick up the pace going down Flowdown - knee was a bit sore and just don't have the leg speed at the moment. Last third was a bit of survival. Second half of the run took me 4 minutes longer despite the easy start. Hot day - glad so much of the run was in the trees. 15 minutes behind Jordan, 25 minutes behind the winner? Overall happy with result. Can't expect more with no training. Not much muscle soreness a day later though right knee is sore.
