Afternoon at McPherson on my own. Took the dog for a lap of the dog loop. He is slowing down so mainly drills or double poling so that he could keep up. Slower than two days ago as there was several cm of fresh snow over the grooming. Could feel that my inner thighs were sore from the other day as well. Finished on Mickey's under the lights - snow falling with the lights on makes for a nice atmosphere...

Was going to go back to the Fingers but warmed up today and I wasn't as keen to go only with Courtney with warming conditions. Had a nice classic ski instead. Coverage is now good for the most part. A little slow due to a skiff of new snow.

Backcountry skiing (Megawatt) 3:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (17:30 / km) +1200m 11:40 / km

Big dump of snow yesterday and a little more today. Top layer was slightly warmer but that didn't affect the skiing too much yet. Out to the Fingers with Travis and CO. Was curious about coverage... turned out to be good with about 130cm but bottomless due to facets under the new snow.

The climb up was interesting as we were following an old track which seemed to climb straight up the hillside. Breaking trail was so hard that we just kept following the track. Hip deep trail breaking in spots... eventually the pitch improved a bit and then we had to break our own trail. Funny skiing down with snow in your lap and barely needing to turn. Almost too deep... got some better speed on the second lap and had some super fun turns. Getting out was a lot of work as we were breaking trail downhill. Used some muscles that don't normally get used when ski touring.

Weather finally changing though not much snow today just wind and cloudy skies. Seemed like the snow had gotten even more variable than before and the wind covered the old tracks in the bowl making it harder to avoid them (and with the cold weather they were pretty solid). First run down the main bowl had some good bits and then some challenging bits. Back up via the summer trail to granny trees where we did three short runs in nice snow. Looked a little thin to be dropping into the boulder field below. The back to the cabin packed up and skied out to the sleds. Mike and I were planning to stay another night but with the variable conditions limiting our ski options decided to head out early. Rob's sled needed a boost too and it seemed nicer to just make sure everyone got out safely together. As it was boosting his sled was no problem and we made it out quite fast. Mike was water skiing behind the sled in the side powder and the guys were jumping over creeks...

Good times hanging out with the Invermere crew. Not the best ski conditions I've had at Jumbo but they can't all be epic.
