Skate ski 1:30:00 [2] 17.5 km (5:09 / km) +191m 4:53 / km

Silver Star weekend with Sean and Juliann. Of course after a long drought with no snow we get a reasonable dump this weekend so not the best nordic conditions (soft and a few cm of fresh snow on top). It certainly made things a little slow - good one skate practice on the flats. We took the dog out first then Sean and I skied pretty steady until we found the girls again.

Classic ski 1:15:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:15 / km) +205m 5:45 / km

Afternoon session with Rich, Sean and Courtney on classic gear. Similar trails to the morning with a few variations. A little harder pace than skating. Ran into Relentless and Frenchie on the trails - small world. Sounds like they may be closer to our neck of the woods in the future.

Classic ski 1:25:00 [3] 17.0 km (5:00 / km) +400m 4:28 / km

Sunny and cold - another day on the waxable skis. Setting a new record this year that will be tough to beat. Green wax worked pretty well other than steep hills. With Catherine and Courtney though the snow was so noisy that hard to talk so ended up in front of them most of the time.

As usual it pays to go out because you never know what you'll find... can't say it was the most amazing snow but soft and no tracks (despite being on a well known McPherson run). Definitely settled though and you can feel all the undulations but given the lack of snow for about two weeks understandable.

Just Stuart and I today. He was struggling with some foot issues so uncharacteristically lagging behind. I wanted to break trail up the flank between the Womb and the Burnt Knob. Worked pretty well - only a few cruxes. Lower down I was amazed again to find old skid roads. Midway the trees were very nicely spaced and could be a good ski right after a snowfall. Had to swing left to avoid a bluff then right higher up. A cliff on the ridge was bypassed on the right (maybe could climb around on the left?). Debated which way to ski down (all three options seemed good with no tracks - hadn't expected that). Headed towards the Womb thinking we may do two laps but decided against that part way down. Lower sections were a little tricky. Part of that may have been my skis - they don;t seem to be the easiest turning skis in stark contrast to the Tonics.

Skate ski 1:38:00 intensity: (1:08:00 @3) + (30:00 @4) 25.5 km (3:51 / km) +600m 3:26 / km

Good solid ski with Brendan - very few stops. I was lagging a touch on the steeper hills - maybe not quite recovered from Friday - but faster on the flats where I could one-skate. We pretty skied all the trails. Lower elevation was getting a little bit slower (time for the structure tool perhaps). Need to do a few more of these before the Sovereign Loppet.
