Classic ski 45:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:38 / km) +200m 5:00 / km

Nordic skiing - mainly went because the dog seemed antsy having done little exercise the last couple days. Drive out was interesting as seemed like only a lane and half had been plowed on the hwy. Unfortunately once we got there he was not interested in going due to snowballs forming under his paw. He made it about 3km then I brought him back. I then followed the groomer on main loop for a bit (otherwise there was 10cm of snow on the morning grooming).

Strength 40:00 [3]

Another 30cm of snow - snowblower is still broken. My core is starting to get tired.

Backcountry skiing (Convert) 2:30:00 [3] 11.0 km (13:38 / km) +800m 10:00 / km

Not as great of a ski today. Seemed like the universe was against us today - I slept poorly, Courtney delivered a baby overnight so we started later than planned, her new boots seem defective and had to come back home for the old boots, lots of traffic at McPherson including tracks on the second choice line we chose to do (should have stuck with option A)... so I was kind of cranky today. In addition it was a bit cold and the uptrack seemed way more complicated than last time I was up here. The steep crux seemed much longer. Overall I think staying right in the trees for a long time is helpful and then a bit left closer to the chute. Ski down had some good bits and other spots where the 4 old tracks were a bit chunky. Lower down the other uptrack (I broke a new one because theirs seemed super steep) went straight up the gully which wrecked the skiing. The lower open area is not as wide as I remembered either and could use some alder clearing. Anyway good to remind myself of the terrain on this run.

Skate ski 55:00 intensity: (37:00 @2) + (18:00 @4) 13.0 km (4:14 / km) +200m 3:56 / km

Short and sweet - dog loop with no poles then 6 x 2.5 min threshold intervals with 1.5min rest.

More snow throwing due to winds last night creating snowdrifts on the driveway.

Backcountry skiing (Megawatts) 4:00:00 [3] 13.5 km (17:47 / km) +1275m 12:05 / km

Ski touring at the Fingers with Sean, Russ and Vikki. Amazing deep powder - almost too deep. And to think I almost left the Megawatts at home as I thought they might be overkill. It was point your skis downhill and keep the momentum up powder. Have not had that many face shots in a few years. The snow dwarf made an appearance - I couldn't stop laughing as he skied down with snow billowing over his head and shoulders. We broke trail up the skiers right side then found an uptrack some other people had made from the main Finger. Deep trail breaking but as the snow was pretty low density not too hard. Minus 10 and probably knee deep ski pen. One run on the skiers far left chute and then into Finger #5.

Went too far right on the uptrack by mistake - thought we hadn't crossed the glade I was looking for but in retrospect we were too low. When we got close to the Womb drainage I knew we were too far. Didn't make the track any longer - in fact bypassed the steep section nicely. Looks like it would work to continue on to the Womb itself or to contour around onto this uptrack from the lower section of the womb. Also found a huge Hemlock - biggest I have seen on macPherson. Looked like almost 4 m in diameter.

Some snow throwing when we got home...

Skate ski 2:25:00 [2] 28.0 km (5:11 / km) +500m 4:45 / km

Headed out to Alder Point with Sean, Juliann, Courtney, Danny and Myra. Lost the latter two due to illness. Again slow conditions - tried to one-skate as much as possible. Had a good steady session going up Paradise and then multiple laps up top waiting. Alder Point was actually pretty beat up from the DH skiers looking for fresh powder. Felt like we skied more like 40km today - was pretty fatigued at the end. Especially the upper body as the soft snow meant less power from the legs. A couple extra km at the end with the dog.

Skate ski 1:30:00 [2] 17.5 km (5:09 / km) +191m 4:53 / km

Silver Star weekend with Sean and Juliann. Of course after a long drought with no snow we get a reasonable dump this weekend so not the best nordic conditions (soft and a few cm of fresh snow on top). It certainly made things a little slow - good one skate practice on the flats. We took the dog out first then Sean and I skied pretty steady until we found the girls again.

Classic ski 1:15:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:15 / km) +205m 5:45 / km

Afternoon session with Rich, Sean and Courtney on classic gear. Similar trails to the morning with a few variations. A little harder pace than skating. Ran into Relentless and Frenchie on the trails - small world. Sounds like they may be closer to our neck of the woods in the future.
