Classic ski 1:15:00 [2] 15.0 km (5:00 / km) +225m 4:39 / km

Classic ski at Sovereign on the way to the airport (again - Meds04 reunion in Costa Rica). I purchased a cross country BC Nordic passport and I've done a very poor job of using it. After today I've only used four free days out of a possible fourteen free days. At least the money goes to a good cause. Very quiet up there today. Snow was fine for classic though slow. Looked a little variable on the skate track.

Backcountry skiing (Tonic) 5:00:00 [3] 24.0 km (12:30 / km) +1900m 8:57 / km

A bit of an adventure with Travis. Was not expecting the conditions to be very good but Travis wanted to drop into Begbie Creek which was on my "to ski" list this year. The snow was better than I expected but that was simply due to the fact that we didn't encounter any breakable crust. Rather the issue was schmoo especially lower down. The upper elevations actually skied OK and was interesting checking out a new area. The run had some pretty exciting sections (steep and narrow at times). A number of heli skier tracks already in the gully (pretty burly run they were tackling). The ski out along the creek was pretty comical at times and quite slow due to the snow. I think it is possible to sneak into the basin from lower down. Also worthwhile to remember that the skier's left line at the top of the gully looks a little wider.

Skate ski 1:10:00 [3] 14.5 km (4:50 / km) +350m 4:18 / km

Another warm day with some sticky snow. Dog loop with no poles to start then the long climb out to hydro way counter clockwise.

Easy classic ski with Courtney. Nice and warm though only a few spots were sticky or soft.

We had an excellent week in terms of conditions (a bit unexpected as the forecast was not lining up well but some surprise snow fixes everything) and managed to cover a lot of the tenure. Certainly there was more terrain to ski but only 3-4 spots that would have felt completely new. I'd certainly consider coming back - March seems to be good time given the terrain being a bit spread out, lots of N facing options and better coverage in the trees.

Pros:
Interesting runs
Easy to explore different zones even if high hazard.
Lodge is very spacious, comfortable and has a great view

Cons:
A lot of short runs
Terrain is spread out
Four lodge helicopter staging is annoying and leads to a lot of waiting around
Lodge is almost too spacious
Shower is not as user friendly as other places (though still way better than many other lodges)
Still has outhouses for #2

Backcountry skiing (Hi5) 5:00:00 [3] 23.0 km (13:03 / km) +1750m 9:27 / km

Last day and checked out the one zone we had not explored yet - Rampart Glades. Some chasing weather today meant that the wind made an appearance. It wasn't too bad early in the day but was quite strong for a few hours in the afternoon. The return uptrack to the lodge was blown in for the most part despite being broken just a few hours earlier.

We skied Excalibur which had some nice open bits but generally moderate pitch and connected this with Gallows. Had some fun following Sean through the mature forest. The skied three different lines on Riders of Rohan (and connected the last one with the lower part of Unicorn Lair). Lots of cliffs to manoeuvre which made the uptracks a little roundabout in spots. A bit of a walk to get back to the lodge (made longer by the need to break trail again). Nice zone none the less.
