Swim 1:00:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (30:00 @3) + (15:00 @4) 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Masters swimming. Arms felt like lead to start again but seemed to improve after the warm up. 400m tempo in 6:30.

Friday Mar 22 #

Skate ski 1:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:00 / km) +250m 3:42 / km

Morning skate ski with Jordan. Excellent conditions on the groomed trails at 8:30. Finished before the snow slowed down much.

Telemark skiing 30:00 [3]

A few hours at the hill with Jordan (8 runs). Minimal line ups. Stayed on the groomers as everything else was icy. North facing groomers were firm but carvable. Stoke was icy earlier in the morning and softening up as we finished around 1 pm. One advantage of spring skiing is not having to worry about being cold. I wore thin gloves and only one layer under the jacket and was more than comfortable.

Morning fat bike ride along the greenbelt (trails are melting but frozen in the morning) and then an afternoon trip out to Salmon Arm to do some road riding with Brook and Sean. Nice to be on the bike - roads were mainly dry. Some gravel covered bits. Temperature regulation at this time of year is tough - very warm in the sun but quite cool in the shade and in depressions. Fields are all still mostly snow covered.

Another cool night in the valley (but again warmer in the alpine). Timed the Nordic conditions fairly well - soft spots in sunny spots when we finished. Used the zero skis which worked well.

Tuesday Mar 19 #

Sunny and warm weather - spring in March. Great except if you had plans to go on a ski trip... with alpine temperatures forecast to be almost ten degree and very high avalanche hazard we postponed our trip to McMurdo. This time includes two rides - a morning fat bike ride with Milo and a road Airport Way with Courtney.

Cooler in the valley than I expected (actually warmer at mid elevations) so the fat bike trail was pretty solid. Even tried going overland though I was right at the cusp of supportive snow. Some dirt patches are starting to show up.

Nice to be on the road bike too. Again cooler than I expected so luckily I didn't underdress.

Swim 1:00:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (20:00 @4) 2.7 km (22:13 / km)

Masters swimming. Upper body felt tired and weak. Pecs and lats were a bit sore - likely from the poling loop yesterday. Weird that this swim felt so crappy compared to the last one. Felt better if I tried to push hard but anything slower was really slow.

Another very warm day with the snow changing from fast to slow quickly. Should have gone a few hours earlier (was there at 11). One dog loop without poles, then another loop only poling, and 20min tempo up to the cabin.

We went skiing much earlier today (9:30) so it was fairly hard and fast early on. It is amazing how fast the sun softens the trails though. Nice glide most of the time - haven't had a lot of decent classic glide this year. Milo seemed off today - unfocused and a poor listener.
