2 PM

Run 45:00 [2] 5.0 km (9:00 / km) +160m 7:46 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Black

Toaster trails and then up to the 5km parking lot. Some of the trails have been raked, others were still pretty leaf covered. Some snow still on the road coming down from the parking lot.

More snow throwing.

Classic ski 1:05:00 [2] 10.5 km (6:11 / km) +275m 5:28 / km

Out with Courtney and Milo. Was a drizzly night with no freeze so chose classic as I thought the snow might be soft. Turned out that skating would have been fine for the most part. Nice to classic one last time though before the track disappears (it is about half the height it usually is due to melt).

Skate ski 1:30:00 [3] 23.5 km (3:50 / km) +610m 3:23 / km

Another loop with the dog on the outer trails. Clear night so too icy at first (though Duane was out on the GInzu while I was skiing and those spots were better at first and then too soft when the icier stuff got better). Skipped the dog loop this time. Overall the conditions were quite nice for late spring so after dropping the dog off did an extra 10km. Was there between 9:15 and 10:45. Sunny spots were softening fast when I finished though very little traffic so likely won't get chewed up too much.

Bike 1:20:00 [3] 32.0 km (24.0 kph) +300m

Fat bike with Milo in the morning and then a road bike ride with Jeff to Clough Rd/Bebgie trailhead in the afternoon. It was a little cold on the other side of the valley - should have stayed in the sun.

Strength 20:00 [2]

That time of year when I do a lot of snow shovelling - moving snow from the shay spots to the sunnier spots so it melts faster and I can clean up the yard.

Classic ski 1:00:00 [2] 12.5 km (4:48 / km) +320m 4:15 / km

Trails are officially closed but still skiable so took advantage to take the dog on a longer loop on trails he normally can't go on. Snow is getting pretty dirty on the lower trails. Perfect conditions for the rubber skis though.

Skate ski 1:10:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @4) 18.0 km (3:53 / km) +425m 3:29 / km

Headlamp Heroes skate ski race - last year I broke a ski at this race as conditions were so firm. Today was quite a bit softer. Was not feeling super motivated when I woke up - tired from yesterday and snow conditions weren't going to be amazing. Signed up for the 30km but decided to stop after one lap to avoid the sloppy conditions on lap number two. Happy I got out but then a little disappointed I didn't do two laps - life is so complicated;) Happy with my fitness and as usual the large amount of offset played to my strengths. Course was slightly longer this year so actually 16km per lap. I was the second person across the line after lap one - Matt was 3 minutes in front of me. Conditions were pretty soft in spots - the Madshus warm snow skis seemed to work well. Their soft tip and long contact patch allowed them to stay higher in the snow and not trench deeper into it. Grooming done for the season...
