Run 1:03:39 [3] 12.5 km (5:06 / km) +50m 5:00 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia Black

I'm in Vancouver for a conference so got to run on dry pavement - even saw green grass and some tulips:) A very nice evening with blue skies and lots of people out enjoying the late evening sun. Ran around the seawall with one short cut. Glad to see that I could comfortably maintain a 5:00/km pace - the running on snow makes it hard to assess actual speed. There might be a low 40s 10k in me still. Unfortunately it seems the run irritated my right calf - not an uncommon occurrence for me. Probably related to the increased speed, running two days in a row and my right glute weakness.

Backcountry skiing (Findr) 5:00:00 [3] 19.0 km (15:47 / km) +2000m 10:21 / km

An exploratory ski with Travis and his friend Denis. I was a little dubious that the route would work but turned out OK. Joey, Darek and Greg had been up here earlier in the week so there was a track for a bit (but it disappeared once we got into the open). Forgot that there was an old trail up the creek which made travel much easier. Refrozen conditions made for fast travel. Once the trees end there is a good several hundred meters with significant overhead exposure. It didn't seem terribly windy and no sun/new snow so decided we were OK risking the exposure (at that elevation we were not going to trigger anything ourselves). Chose the north side of the creek as figured the south faces had stuffed much more this season. Once in the bowl we had variable light as cloud levels varied - enough visibility to pick our way up. Overall the slope angle rarely got very steep (mostly in the 25-32 range). Made it to the ridge and could see across to Jade Lakes but then got completely socked in for a while. Took advantage of the first bit of acceptable visibility to ski down. A fairly careful ski which made it a bit less fun. Good long run at an acceptable pitch. The rest of the ski out was pretty quick though the last few km sucked due to snow becoming isothermal. Fun exploration - hard to say if I would go back as it is a bit of a walk to get back there. Not any longer than Asulkan though and arguably a better run than the Dome (and no tracks).
