SOB and Hemlock Groove loop. Several cm of snow on the trail but in the forest still completely runnable. Might be the time for a bit as a storm is forecast for this weekend.

Gorge with Courtney, Brook and Scott. Haven't been here in a few weeks after the last warm storm which left a temperature crust west of town. You can still feel the crust up to 1600m then it peters out. Given the lack of significant precipitation I was expecting lots of tracks and though the usual spots looked tracked lots of spots close to the parking lot were track free. Given the 1/1/1 avalanche forecast decided to try a climb directly up to the ridge just north of the 15km summit. There really is only hazard to deal with over the last 100 vert - either stay on moderate angle all the way but be exposed to some overhead hazard or 30-40m of steep but with no overhead. We went for the steep today. Dropped down the other side finding some nice glades (though some old suncrust could be felt given the SW aspect). The headed across the valley to check out another run on the "I wonder if this goes" list. The route we took up would be a great (albeit short) run down. Continued higher than I had planned as didn't see any of the expected snowmobile tracks (we were getting into the sledding area).Visibility crapped out so skipped the very top - good run down. Requires one flat section and then one traverse left to get into the gully. The gully is not too gully-ish and wide enough for 5-6 people probably. Then climbed back to the ridge and dropped down near our uptrack. Found some really nice trees midway down (too bad this zone is only 150m of vertical). Last 100m skied like crap due to the crust underneath but everything else was great.

Solo classic ski. 10km with Milo then up to the higher trails for a little more. Felt a little tired today.
