Skate ski 1:20:00 [2] 15.25 km (5:15 / km) +300m 4:47 / km

Skate ski with Sean, Juliann, Andrea and Courtney. Sovereign was not as lucky as Nickel Plate in terms of recent snowfall (and is a little lower) so conditions were much more variable and only 10 km of groomed trail. Much busier as well due to Saturday morning race programs starting...

Once we figured out which trails to avoid had a reasonable ski. Didn't stay for another ski Sunday as we wanted to avoid driving in the storm.

Leg day... yes I know no one likes leg day;)
10 AM

Bike 1:00:00 [2] 10.5 km (10.5 kph) +310m

We left Penticton today on the way to Silver Star and stopped in Summerland to ride the Test of Humanity course. It was a fun ride - nothing too technical but whoever built this trail has put many hours into manicuring the trail with a multitude of bermed corners. About 10 degrees and we finished right as it started spitting rain.

We took a short trip out of town to escape the rain - the Okanagan tends to be drier at this time of year. The last few weeks have been a tease for nordic skiing as the forecast looks promising but then not much snow at the nordic centres that are high enough to be open in November. Nickel Plate had great conditions two weeks ago and then lost snow so weren't planning to groom until Saturday. Several cm of snow last night meant that they suddenly changed plans and were open again... to add the cherry on top we drove through the valley cloud that socked Apex in and emerged into nice sunny weather above.

This was my first trip to Nickel Plate and was quite impressed. Snow conditions were pretty good with about 20km open. There were certainly some early season hazards and the conditions were slow but overall great skiing. Nice views across to Cathedral Provincial Park from Panorama ridge. Only a dozen or so cars in the parking lot.

Crossfit symmetry, overhead press and dumbell press.

Bike 1:25:00 [2] 13.5 km (9.5 kph) +560m

Smith Creek in West Kelowna with Courtney. A bit of sun although whenever it went behind the clouds things got chilly. Lower elevation was dry, then a middle section with some mud, and finished with a skiff of dry snow at the top. Fun descent on Feel the Love - the jumps on this trail are always fun.

Flowdown, Tantrum to lower Montgomery. Could be the last run through the forest there as I imagine it will get logged this winter. Makes me feel a bit sad for the upcoming loss... I stopped to take in some of the better mossy forest sections. Of course I was reminded later in the run as I ran along a very old skid orad that this is the cycle of the forest.
