Airport Way on the TT bike. I think it has been a couple years since I've been out on this bike. I considered selling it but it probably has more value to me than anyone else (even if I barely use it). I tracked down some additional spacers for the aerobars which helped my position I think. Holding the TT position is certainly tiring though... I had a good headwind on the way there and consequently a nice tailwind on the way back. My gears were skipping quite a bit which was rather annoying. Overall a good ride.

Bike 1:20:00 [2] 10.0 km (7.5 kph) +340m

Checking out the higher trails on Macpherson which are opening up. Lots of stops today to clear smaller trees on the trail. There is still snow on Beaver Tail, upper sections of Toad School and the flat section of Root Canal.

Backcountry skiing (BMT) 4:00:00 [2] 14.0 km (17:09 / km) +1600m 10:55 / km

Extending the ski season as long as possible:) Latest proper ski ever? The fact that we've had a cool spring has been helpful. The last few days have seen low FL and some fresh snow at high elevations. Russ and Tom suggested getting out and I was glad that they were interested. We had to get as high as possible and I wanted to avoid the valley bottom trails - Avalanche Mountain seemed like a good option as long as we had adequate visibility to navigate the glacier. It was quite foggy in the morning but there were enough bits of blue sky that we decided to give it a go.

The snow was supportive though a little uneven on the lowest slopes (from the recent rain). A skiff of new snow helped the grip though Russ found things challenging with his wider planks (we didn't use the ski crampons). Once we entered the upper valley the snow was much smoother. We bootpacked the headwall rather than side hilling the usual way on the firm layer above a cliff...

Once on the glacier we found winter with ankle deep powder and though it got rather soupy at times there was enough visibility to pick our route through the crevasses. Unforuntately it was not clear enough push on up the NW couloir - another time...

The skiing was excellent until 2300 m and deteriorated to heavy snow once off the glacier. We had a short climb to the col and then down into NRC gully. The skiing on this side was pretty good actually with the aformentioned smooth slopes skiing like a groomer. Lower down things had softened a bit too much but still quite skiable without being grabby.
