Blaze on Daily Planet Tonight!
Just an FYI, the 900 km trail race from this summer, Blaze: The Niagara Escarpment Race will be airing on the Daily Planet tonight. I just got this note from the producer (below):

"Hi guys, Sorry for the short notice, but I just wanted to let you all know that the BLAZE Story we shot this summer will be on the show tonight - Daily Planet on Discovery Channel at 7pm and 11pm eastern time. I just finished the final audio pass this morning, and my Senior Producers are eager to get it on the air ASAP. The story turned out great! Thanks so much for all your help in making it happen."

Cheers,

Simon

running 1:25:00 [3] 15.0 km (5:40 / km) +140m 5:25 / km

estimated distance, probably longer but from home to douglas fir and back. Took it pretty easy even on the return section didn't feel the need to hammer. Great night for running. Apparently a great night for committing crimes too, as we found the parking lot crawling with cops and a police chopper circling the park. Don't know who or what for, but it was intriguing. We were probably running so fast that someone assumed we stole something and called the cops.

chest and back. Single arm db press (50 lbs) on the ball, great stability ex. Superman pups, bosu balance pups, chins, and rev. fly with band. Nice quick workout.

walking 3:30:00 [3]

Hiked Akikima (sp?) Ridge to Wall Lake. What an amazing spot. I'm trail running this sucker next time though and summiting the ridge. Chased some mountain goats and got within rifle range...if I were a hunter. Fortunately for the goats I wasn't, so I just got a good look instead of a good shot. Seems like a total shame that someone would get their jollies blasting these beautiful animals.

walking 4:00:00 [3] 16.0 km (15:00 / km) +550m 12:48 / km

Great hike with Alice in Waterton Nat. Park. Did the Rowe Lakes/Lineham ridge hike. Stellar views. Serious winds though!

running 1:40:00 [3] 17.0 km (5:53 / km) +120m 5:41 / km

Great run on my new trail and douglas fir. All within a few hundred meters from the front door. Weather is still stellar, and no smoke from controlled burns in the mountain today. Took the run pretty easy for the most part. Climbed well. Tried to get Meridian out today but no dice...must be running with someone without a y-chromosome.

running 45:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:18 / km) +15m 5:15 / km

Lunch hour cruise in 32 degree heat. Tougher to run, but beautiful! Legs a bit tired from last night's workout.

running 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km) +60m 5:50 / km

Out to edworthy and discovered an awesome new trail on the west side of the park. Combined with Douglas Fir, it will be an awesome 2 hr run! Looking forward to more of this. Light tempo out, pushed harder back. Felt good throughout. Maybe resting is not such a bad idea from time to time.

BLASTING 55:00 [3]

Back and chest workout with Brad. Chest not super, but back was great.

Note

Ultimate game for corporate challenge tonight. Played alright. Had a stellar hammer to finish the game with, but still lost by 4 points unfortunately.

BLASTING 1:00:00 [4]

one hour of bench press. My chest is still cramping as I type this. I had jello arms for the last 114 reps. PAIN!!!!
Decided to take it easy for the rest of the day.

Cycling 35:00 [3]

cruisy commutes.

Note

Check out the two-man relay on the Niagara Escarpment: www.the850race.com, they're updating using Twitter. They've just
discovered that the trails between Hamilton and Waterdown are very
treacherous and rocky. Things will improve towards Collingwood, but the
Bruce Peninsula will be rocky and unforgiving.

Note

Mediocre week. A few late nights led me to decide to dial back the volume and just do some fun stuff. Still had a night of fast riding on the mtb, some good tempo running on Thursday morning, so not a complete loss...just didn't put in the mileage. Corporate challenge started, so that will take some time out of the sked. with random events like ulti, indoor soccer, and tug-of-war (against a transport truck...which we won!).

Cycling 1:40:00 [3]

Great day for a ride so Alice and I went and did some laps around Canmore nordic centre. Trails were in great shape, and her riding has gotten much better since getting the new bike. I'm still getting used to the Jamis, and will bring the s-works out for the next ride to compare them. S-works should be running sweet with new housing and cables...can't believe the difference swapping the old for new has made...so crisp and snappy!

Note

2 hours of indoor ulti this morning, but since I was a handler I hardly did any running. The games were blow-outs for us. We'll face more competitive teams on Tuesday in the sudden-death round.

BLASTING 1:00:00 [3]

Back and core. Didn't feel very strong today. Did okay, but need rest. Chins are getting much better with weight. Didn't do seated rows. Girls gave Brad and I the 1980's Esso headbands. Totally awesome. Can't believe they still have them around.

Run into work. Great morning with perfect running temperature. Felt pretty good all the way in.

Note

Corporate golf tourney. Spent too much time in the cart to log this even though Hammer would love it. Hit the ball pretty well for the first 14 holes. Wheels fell off after that. Speed golf, now I could get into that I think.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

savage headwind on the ride home tonight. commute.

Cycling 2:00:00 [4]

Ride to COP, 3 laps of corporate challenge course with Nick. Feeling pretty fast on the flowy stuff...still getting used to climbing on the Jamis...miss the hardtail climb for the smooth stuff. 3 hard laps = ~24-30 min of 4/5 intensity.

walking 4:00:00 [2] 12.0 km (20:00 / km) +250m 18:07 / km

Fun day of hiking with Alice and my Mom in Johnson Canyon today. Total tourist trap but it was still awesome, and reaching the ink pots was great. Put in around 12 km round trip and 250 m gain I think.

Friday Sep 4, 2009 #

running 35:00 [3] 6.8 km (5:09 / km)

easy recovery run to work in the am. felt pretty good.

BLASTING 1:00:00 [3]

Great day for the back. Chins with 50 lb added, and then worked my way down to bodyweight. Seated lat-pdowns a bit weaker, but got it done. Tired by seated row time so cranked 95 lbs x 55 in one set, so that was good. Bunch of rev. flys for the lower back to finish. gym was dead

Cycling 15:00 [3]

only 1 way commute

running 20:00 [2]

Interval night warm up and cool down

running intervals 19:38 [4] 6.0 km (3:16 / km)

500, 500, 500 -3 min rest, repeat 3 more times. 1:42, 1:40, 1:36 - 1:38, 1:38, 1:38 - 1:38, 1:39, 1:38 - 1:36, 1:42, 1:33. Felt pretty good and although I could have run 1:36's more than I did, I was happy to ease back a bit and run closer to my goal time of 1:44, even though I failed badly after the first interval. Wind was helpful and deadly tonight. 90 minute rest between each of the 3 500s.

Ride with Alice, Simon, and Christina to NoseHill and cruised up there for a while. Got some solid climbs in, and rode some new stuff too. Lots of good loops so close...must get more rides in up there before the snow flies next week!

running 35:38 [4] 8.1 km (4:24 / km) +10m 4:22 / km

Lunch run with Nick to Crowchild and back. Great weather. Lots of people out so there was a bit of ducking and dodging on the path. Ran an upper tempo pace but felt good through most of it. Could still feel the legs a bit from Sunday.

Cycling 35:00 [3]

nice commute both ways today.

running 25:00 [3] 4.2 km (5:57 / km) +100m 5:19 / km
