water running 55:00 [4]

Seniors deep water fitness class. Only male. Took the thinnest flotation belt. Spent the time working hard with barely a nostril above the waterline. Worked hard but got lapped by the ladies. Repeatedly. On land I am king. In the water, I am but a mere serf.

running race 1:46:15 [3] 21.2 km (5:01 / km) +400m 4:35 / km

5 peaks 1/2 marathon in Canmore. All the big guns out today so it was a fun race. Weather great and aside from a bit of grease, the course was in tip-top shape. Lots of big climbs and technical descents. Happy with finish. 7th overall.

running race 39:04 [5] 10.0 km (3:54 / km) +50m 3:49 / km
shoes: Montrail Goretex Hurricane

Corporate challenge 10 km. Felt great for the first 3 km. Okay for the next 3 having settled into a steady tempo. When the guy I was running with started breathing harder I dropped the hammer on a climb over Glenmore on a pedestrian overpass. Ran hard off the overpass and kept the throttle on for the next km which was on grass. Made the turn to the finish, which was about 600-800 m of slight uphill on the road and basically died. Thoughts of walking danced through my head as I got passed by the guy who dropped me and another guy. All things considered though, was happy with the race and considering my lack of speed work and running over the past month, view it as an encouraging result. Next event, Canmore 5 peaks 1/2 marathon.

walking 10:00:00 [3] 25.0 km (24:00 / km) +3000m 15:00 / km

Another Adventure Science aircraft search in the high sierras. Checked one of two goal areas. Cleared the Pallisades glacier area but wasn't able to get into Dusy Basin due to time and weather. Visited a wreck site near Bishop...still finding bone fragments from the 36 passengers. Sobering. Will be adding content to the AS site to encourage hikers in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. to report any metal debris they find...should be a cool online way to help track down these missing airplanes.
